I liked the Ford better then the commercial Kodiak 4500 they had at the Auto show. You can tell a commercial truck that has been retro fitted with a bed from a mile away. The Ford looks more like a normal truck then the Kodiak or Freight liner with a bed.

With Ford's issues with their previous iteration of the PowerStroke (6 Liter), I won't be rushing out to spend $50K on a new 6.4L version of their diesel anytime soon. Look on the internet for pictures of the new 6.4L. You literally cannot see the engine block in the engine bay - it's completely hidden by plumbing. I've seen some of the training videos the Ford mechanics have to watch for their training on these new engines - one of the first modules in the training is how to remove the cab from the chassis to work on the engine itself. How many shadetree mechanics are going to be able to work on their own trucks now? The answer is none. Off to the dealer you go to get anything done, and just how many labor hours does it take to remove the cab? No thanks - they can keep this one. It's also doesn't give me a real comforting feeling when Ford is suing International/Navistar (the builder of the Powerstroke engine) for part of the warranty costs Ford incurred on the previous 6 Liter. Here's a link to that article: http://detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070112/UPDATE/701120464

Wow... 24K lbs. Without researching it, I don't even think the 3500 Chevy can do that. I think you have to step up to the Kodiak to get that and I'll agree with post #5... Conversion's have always looked awkward.

And even though Ford is doing this, I don't expect GM, or even Chrysler to follow suit. Maybe they might if the market really does justify it but how big is the market anyway for a truck this size?

Great truck for the 1 in a million people that NEED it. Too bad 1 in 1,000 will THINK they need it.

24k is great. I'm a gm fan but after puchasing a alpha toy house it is good to see a truck that will pull it. I ordered the 450 with 4.88 rear end before the brochure came out, but changed it to a 4.30 after I noticed that is rated for 20k. I hope I won't have the problems ford had in the past

I think Ford may have screwed the pooch on this truck.
1. 6 coolers including the radiator...right behind the plastic grill.
2..Do you know, to have any major engine work done on this
truck, THE CAB HAS TO BE REMOVED !!!!
Think about the commerical applications of this truck, ie:
ambulances, rescue trucks...This will be a night mare for them. There are approximatley 60 wires that have to be connected between the cab and the ambulance box, do you really think ford is going to diconnect all those wires and hook them back up? NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
3. You can attach no devices to the front of the truck that impeeds airflow (ie:brushguards, no extentions for winches)
It voids the warranty of the engine.
After the 6.0, everyone was hoping that ford was back in the game, but this chassis is a night mare.
Speaking of nightmares....There will be no FORD E series chassis built in 2007 model year. The 6.4 will not fit in between the frame rails. They will start building the E series again in late August or early September, using an ISUZU motor (GM) in a Ford.....lol...
The other draw back to the F350 and F450 is the hood, when it is raised the grill is attached to the hood. Damn, Dodge must have design that for Ford.

The F-150 has done that since 2004. No one has claimed to me yet.

Also the only way I have ever seen the guys do major engine work on the 6.0 here at my dealer was by raising body off of the frame. So I don't know why you think that is such a big deal.

Also E-series is available with the 6.0 for 2007. Don't know what they are doing for 08 yet as the order guide is not out.

June is Final order for 2007 models, 2008 Job 1 is in August.
