Told everything I wanted to know. This is a nice change. Better to have lots of technical info rather then too little. Well written. Have to go slow on that incline out of laughlin anyway as there are always speed traps along it, but its nice to know the domestics are still top of the heavy duty tow set.

KarenS,
It's not as big in person. I just seen it at the auto show yesterday, and I was surprised by how "not big" it was. IMHO it didn't look any bigger than a Toyota Crewmax.

I'm a loyal GM truck buyer, but I have to give Ford credit on this one. Looked a million times better then any commercial truck retro fitted that I have ever seen.

I am also a loyal GM buyer and i think the truck is but ugly. But that is a huge tow rating. It is like double the pounds than the chevy 3500. Well you wont see me in one.

I liked the Ford better then the commercial Kodiak 4500 they had at the Auto show. You can tell a commercial truck that has been retro fitted with a bed from a mile away. The Ford looks more like a normal truck then the Kodiak or Freight liner with a bed.

With Ford's issues with their previous iteration of the PowerStroke (6 Liter), I won't be rushing out to spend $50K on a new 6.4L version of their diesel anytime soon. Look on the internet for pictures of the new 6.4L. You literally cannot see the engine block in the engine bay - it's completely hidden by plumbing. I've seen some of the training videos the Ford mechanics have to watch for their training on these new engines - one of the first modules in the training is how to remove the cab from the chassis to work on the engine itself. How many shadetree mechanics are going to be able to work on their own trucks now? The answer is none. Off to the dealer you go to get anything done, and just how many labor hours does it take to remove the cab? No thanks - they can keep this one. It's also doesn't give me a real comforting feeling when Ford is suing International/Navistar (the builder of the Powerstroke engine) for part of the warranty costs Ford incurred on the previous 6 Liter. Here's a link to that article: http://detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070112/UPDATE/701120464

Wow... 24K lbs. Without researching it, I don't even think the 3500 Chevy can do that. I think you have to step up to the Kodiak to get that and I'll agree with post #5... Conversion's have always looked awkward.

And even though Ford is doing this, I don't expect GM, or even Chrysler to follow suit. Maybe they might if the market really does justify it but how big is the market anyway for a truck this size?

Great truck for the 1 in a million people that NEED it. Too bad 1 in 1,000 will THINK they need it.

24k is great. I'm a gm fan but after puchasing a alpha toy house it is good to see a truck that will pull it. I ordered the 450 with 4.88 rear end before the brochure came out, but changed it to a 4.30 after I noticed that is rated for 20k. I hope I won't have the problems ford had in the past

What is so bad about owning this truck if you don't really need it ?
