I was all ready to buy an Impala LTZ. I figured the size and 3.9 L V-6 (233 HP???) was enough for an old hot rodder like me. Then I read this forum. Researched the Aura(s). I found it was the same size as the Malibu, Lexus ES330, Camry, Accord, etc. Then I say the Power train specs, the 4 or 6(?) speed choices. I read about the 3.6 DOHC 24 Valve VVT All Aluminum V6. The Corvette designed paddle shifters and 4 way tilt wheel. And on and on and on went the added or better features on the Aura XR.
One driver of 3-4 miles and I opened the checkbook.
This is the closest thing to an infinity or lexus you can get for under $30 grand.
Thanks to all that write to this forum, I almost bought a Chevy.

Drove XR Saturday 4/7 by napacruzer

Went to the local Saturn dealer Saturday in my C5 Corvette instead of my daily driver 2003 Nissan Altima SE. I did not want any temptation to trade-in the Altima if I liked the XR. Styling: nice crisp lines. Dealer had a few XRs with billet grills which seemed a little too ricer for me but looked o.k. Stock grill looks just fine. Rear view shows it to be upright; I would have preferred a wider and lower stance. Interior: I drove one with the Morocan Leather (brown) which integrated well with the wood trim interior. Ergonomics seem fine although steering wheel controls a little too small compared to my Altima. Center stack looks confusing but I'm sure would become second nature after a few weeks of ownership. Test Drive: Wow...felt like a much bigger car; much smoother than my Altima. Power was decent although I did not try to push the green engine too much (odo showed 73 miles at beginning). I liked it a lot. Minor dislikes: right side fuel tank filler; I prefer having the filler on the left side. Old fashioned left foot operated parking/emergency brake; again I prefer the lift up lever either in the center console or between the driver's door and seat. Now if I can just convince the wife that my problem free 85,000 mile Altima is ready to be replaced.

You might like to read my first drive report (My first driving experience in the Saturn Aura, XR) on the "2007 Saturn Aura XR Follow-up Test" page.
Since that drive I have drive to Morro Bay and back and can't say there is one thing I don't love about this car. I have a cadillac for these longer drives, that is until now. The Cady is for sale.

After just a few minor issues with my 2007 XR in which the dealer fixed with no problem I am thrilled with my car.If US automakers had been building this quality of vehicle for the past 30 yrs the imports would be the ones with a failing auto industry 43,000 miles and getting an average of 23.7 mixed use,and have hit 25.2 on long drive w/cruise at 75mph, only mod has been K&N air filter.
