What was the last year the Prelude was produced, 2002?
 
In terms of performance on backroads is a Prelude a better drive or an Accord coupe with a 6 cylinder?
 
Did Preludes come with a 6, and what type of horsepower do they have?
 
Was the Prelude dropped because of the S2000 or did sales of the Prelude drop?

The last model year for the Prelude is 2001, and it was powered by a four-cylinder engine rated at 200HP. The Accord V6 coupe engine has the same rating (more torque though); having owned both cars, the Prelude is a much better handler. The Accord V6 is nice for highway trips but not really meant for acrobatics (I'm sure with proper aftermarket parts its handling demeanor can be improved, though).
 
Prelude sales had been declining, and in the late 90s/early 00s shoppers had the new S2000 and redesigned Accord/Acura CL coupes as additional choices; the latter two are larger and have more creature comforts than the Prelude while still providing a pseudo-sporty image. The S2000 is primarily a second 'fun' car for those who already have a daily driver and can afford a $33K recreational roadster, so if anything helped expedite the end of the Prelude, it might have been the Accord coupe.

I know I'm a bit late on this, but I'd also like to add that the over all Honda lineup in the USA had several (sporty) cars during the time span of the 5th gen Prelude. In addition to the existence of the S2000 (which actually was priced 10 grand more than the base model prelude), the Integra GSR/Type R and the Civic Si were also offered with "about" the same price and power as the prelude. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any websites with sales statistics, but I do know that the Integra out sold the Prelude and the Civic. Additionally, from a tuner perspective, the B16 and B18 platforms in the Civic and Integra respectively were much easier and cheaper to modify, as well as more reliable in a higher performance setup than the H22A1/4 in the Prelude.

They are totally different cars. The only thing they share is: They are both Honda.
