08 Expedition-"Scraping" noise by roger341

Truck bought new and only have 14,000 miles. The other day after a trip of about 400 miles, noticed a slight scraping noise from underneath when accelerating usually below 30 mph.

Only does it for split second and don't notice any slippage, just the odd noise. Doesn't do it every time so dealer probably won't be able to replicate.

Any ideas before we take it to dealer?

Figure out how to make it 'scrape' consistently. Then take the service rep on a test drive. It's not normal. There is a TSB for a sqawk noise on hard accleration at around 30mph, but it sounds like a belt slipping, not scrapping. Could be related though. Here is the info for that.
TSB 09-6-1

04/06/09
6R75 TRANSMISSION - SQUAWK NOISE DURING
POWER/FORCED DOWNSHIFT

FORD:
2007-2008 Expedition

This article supersedes TSB 08-19-8 to update the vehicle model years and remove the production fix date.
ISSUE
Some 2007-2008 Expedition vehicles equipped with a 6R75 transmission may exhibit a squawk type noise during hard acceleration down shifts (4-3), (5-3) and (6-3) downshifts. The noise is produced during the release of the overdrive clutch.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Follow Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01B to replace the overdrive friction plates.
WARRANTY STATUS: Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage
IMPORTANT : Warranty coverage limits/policies are not altered by a TSB. Warranty coverage limits are determined by the identified causal part.

Actually it may not be driveable. If it is stuck in 4WD and you make tight corners on dry pavement you are risking damage to the drive line. Sounds to me like the transfer case shift motor didn't move out of 4WD.

I'm having a delayed shift from 1st to 2nd (Slips into neutral) on my 03 Expedition 5.4L 4x4. Just took it to my repair shop today and nothing shows on the codes and obviously it won't act up for mechanic. (Intermittent issue). He mentioned it may have to be reflashed at a Ford Dealership. How much did your reflash cost?

Thank you,
