I would really be interested in the dealer's name where you got this deal. I made a verbal committment on Sat. 12/15 /12 to purchase a RX 350 FWD that was equipped the way that I wanted it. The MSRP is $47,810 and he will sell it for $44,000 plus tags and tax. ( no trade). I had talked to the salesman and made an offer of $42,888 but he essentially blew it off.
After reading you post, my gut feeling about paying too much was confirmed. I'm supposed to go to the dealer tomorrow--Mon. 12/17/12 to get the deal but after reading your post and others ,I don't think I'm going to do it.
Thanks for your help.

I am thinking the same thing. The mistake that I made was trying to make an offer that I deamed to be fair. I seemed to have made an offer he couldn't refuse. I hate to go back on my word given over the phone but after calaulating the MD 6% sales tax and titling fees-I'm have to do just that.
I also wanted to find out about the particulars of the one pay leasings programalthough leasing probably isn't for me.

Tell the sales rep that if he won't agree to your $42,888 price then you want to talk to a manager. First rule in car buying. Never do the deal with only a sales rep. You need to offer a price low enough such that he gets the manager involved.
Personally I'd offer $42,000 even, to the manager. $42,888 is too high for that model/package.

Thanks for the response. The $42,000 is exactly what I said to my wife this AM. I plan on calling the sales manager first thing Mon. (12/17/12 ) and tell him that ,although I did agree over the phone to the $44,000,I've had second thoughts because of the additional taxes and tags ( adds about $3000) which I hadn't realized were so high, and that I will continue to look around for a deal that meets my needs. If he agrees-I'll buy the car on Mon.
There was a reason that I didn't feel comfortable with the deal--even thogh I made the offer. If I can't get what I want --I don't need the car.

Sorry I didn't see this till today. As for dealing with the manager just tell him that this is your price such that you will buy today.
How did it work out?

I visited a SoCal dealer looking for a new RX AWD. The salesperson said AWD rarely sold here in SoCal. Is this true?

The manager would take $43000 which is 9% off of the MSRP. Nice vehicle but it didn't have a couple of things that I wanted so I decided to look for a vehicle that have a exactly what I want.
If I'm in that price range, should get what I want not what they offer.
Can't decide on an AWD or a FWD. Also, the rx350 that I drove had more wind noise than I expected. ( 19" wheels ,FWD ). I drove another rx350 ( AWD,18" wheels ) and the wind noise didn't seem to be as bad. Could be me since their quality control is probably pretty good.
