I have 194k miles on my '03 Ford Expedition and just recently started to have the same problems. When idling, the vehicle begins to rev up and down and will eventually shut off unless I put it in neutral. I have had bad vacuum lines replaced as well as several other things and still no solution. I can not tell if the vehicle shifts poorly in low speeds or if there is a lack of power from somewhere. Also, it is very sluggish in reverse as well and will shut off if I don't quickly put in back in park or neutral. Wonder if the problem is the transmission?? Any ideas?

UPDATE TURNS OUT ONE OF THE NEW FORD MOTORCRAFT COILS THAT I PURCHASED FROM THE DEALER HAD MALFUNCTIONED SOMEHOW AFTER WE INSTALLED IT AND WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM, IT ONLY TOOK THE DEALER A WEEK TO FIGURE IT OUT AND THEN STILL CHARGE ME FOR THE PARTS THEY PUT ON THAT WERENT NEEDED AFTER ALL. SO CHECK ALL THE OBVIOUS EVEN IF IT DOESNT SEEM RIGHT,

Yesterday we bought a '01 Ford expedition from munday ford that already had 153k miles on it......it ran so well yesterday and this morning. But leaving work for lunch this afternoon it will only start and stay on if I give it gas, and it such low RPMs. If I take my foot off it dies. Please help!!!
Also there was no warranty on it from the dealership. So what can I do?

mine did that too. Its the central junction box. its the one thing ford overlooks. they had to hook a "heart monitor" up to mine and had one of thier mechanics drive it for a week til it miraculously died on him, they hit record on this machine and found the problem. Good Luck.

I am not sure if it could be a problem with the fuel filter/pump or if it is a faulty coil. I have read on the message boards for a solution but still have not found one. Any ideas??? Thanks
