#408 of 659 Cadillac CTS cut out at 60 mph
by whb53

I have a new 2011 Cadillac CTS with 1700 miles on it. Yesterday, I was driving 60 mph on a highway, and the car just cut out completely -- only the radio kept working. I must have felt the car decelerate, because I looked at the dashboard, and it was totally dark. Luckily, I was in the right lane and traffic was light. I was able to maneuver the car onto the shoulder. I tried to restart the car, and nothing happened -- It didn't even make a noise. It was like someone unplugged the power to the car. A few seconds later, I tried to restart the car again, and it started right up and ran fine. The dealer has the car now and is trying to determine the problem, but has not yet figured it out. Has anyone had this issue? Does anyone know someone who experienced this with their car? Any ideas? Thanks.

Is your car still in at the dealership, hdhawkins71? If we can look into this further with you, please don't hesitate to contact us via email. We would be opening a Service Request, and would need the following information: your name/Edmunds user name, your contact information (phone and address please), the last 8 digits of your VIN and current mileage, and the name of your involved dealership. My coworker Christina, who answers most of the emails from Edmunds, will advise you as to our next steps.
We look forward to hearing from you,
Sarah

Sarah, The service department said they can't find anything wrong with the car and they test drove it for 80 miles. They said it must be a software anomoly, and they downloaded software. The car is a deathtrap, and Cadillac is not taking responsibility for it. Who should I contact, and how?

Yes, so glad to find you. The day (1-2 weeks ago)I drove my 2007 Cadillac CTS from the service department for having timing chain & passenger side airbag recalls (supossedly) fixed...my car has been making new strange noises and added a burning smell that I cannot locate. Under 76,000 miles~~maintenced properly. I can only speak for myself~~I bought a Cadillac for not just luxury also for RELIABILITY. I am a divorced single mom who all the way (4yrs) of RN school and waiting tables when not in class said to myself, "When I get my first RN paycheck I am going to reward myself with a Cadillac." Well I got a Cadillac...
but no reward.

There are good reasons for buying a CTS. However, if reliability is a top priority, then it may not be a good choice. Consumer Reports indicates that reliability of CTS has varied from average to much worse than average over the years. Major engine problems have developed in older models.
CR is a good source of this type of information, and has helped me make wise car buying choices for decades. The on-line subscription is particularly helpful, as it provides detailed information on reliability, road tests, etc. Note that I am just a long time CR subscriber, and have no relationship with CR.

If you haven't already done so, I would ask for you to send us an email using the information in my profile here on Edmunds. My coworker Christina generally responds to the incoming emails from Edmunds, and so you should hear back from here over the course of the next few days. Another option would be to call the Cadillac Customer Assistance Center at 800-458-8006. They're open 8am-9pm EST, Monday through Saturday.
Best,
Sarah
