Depending on where you live, if you get a tax break on trade-ins, you'd probably get more trading than selling privately anyway.

25K for 2006 XC90? by samib

Need your advice before I purchase a certified pre-owned 2006 Volvo XC90 with 20,000 miles.

It has leather interior, sun roof, power passenger side, premium package, and 3rd row. Comes with 3 year or 100,000 mile warranty as well. It does not have navigation or DVD headrests. It is certified and was bought at auction for $21,000 (we researched this, they didn't tell us!).

Is $25,000 way too high? The original price was $26,500 and we negotiated down to $25,000. They explained the $4K difference in cost as the fee to certify as pre-owned and the cost of the auction, etc. Is this BS? Should we get it for $21K?

At first $25K seemed good, but the more I read, the more I think it might still be too high. At this point, if it is too high, what are the magic words to get them to come down to a more realistic and competitive price? If is IS a good deal, tell me so I can jump on it. Thanks!

$25k is spot on, IMHO.
It does cost money to certify and provide the warranty. And it ain't cheap. After fees, transport, and certification, they may be making $1k on the deal, which is pretty slim for a used car. So $25k is a fair deal.

Should we get it for $21K?

unless something is wrong with a car, you would not be able to purchase for auction value. Dealer has to stay in business somehow.

Volvo Certified Pre-Owned XC90... Any Gotchas? by leejp

I'm considering the purchase of a Certified XC90. 05~06 are at attractive prices and I could use a 7 passenger vehicle with decent gas mileage.

What are the gotchas?

Is the 100K/6yr warranty bumper/bumper? Any hassles?

I understand the Volvo Certification process replaces the Tires, Brakes and potentially other wear items (air filter? cabin filter?...). Is this universally true?

Most of the XC90s I'm looking at are ~20-40K mike range. What are the high $$$ scheduled maintenance checkpoints?

Do all minor service (oil + filter changes..)... have to be done at the dealer to avoid voiding the warranty?

Honest, hard working dealers deserve to stay in business and make a fair profit off of me. Thanks in advance...

The biggest "gotcha" is the T6 model. Avoid it at all costs!

As to maintenance costs, I believe the 30k service is ~$400. However, at least on my '05, it was complimentary. Free service up to 30k.

Do all services have to be done at the dealer? Not necessarily. But, you better be prepared with detailed receipts if something should go wrong. Personally, I take my vehicles to the dealer while under warranty to avoid any complications. BUT, I only follow the recommended maintenance in the owner's manual, NOT the dealer's recommended schedule.

Off the top of my head, it seems high. But I believe the Ocean Race models may be in the own world when it comes to values. And I believe they only came loaded (premium [that's your moonroof and leather], versatility [3rd row], cold weather [seat heaters]), with maybe Nav as the only option.

So my best suggestion is to head on over to the Real-world trade-in values board, and ask volvomax what its worth on a trade. For CPO, if you can get the dealer down to $4k over trade value, you are doing fine.

I saw your post and his reply. So, to me, it sounds like $26k would be a decent goal to shoot for.
