The speculation is that GMC may offer a V8 as part of a possible Denali package next model year (2008).

People focus too much on MSRP. What matters is what people actually pay.

Had my first chance today to sit in and look around a new GMC Acadia . I have to tell you this is one nice vehicle . . The interior room is wonderful . The exterior styling is really sharp . I was surprised at how large this vehicle is yet it will get 26 mpg highway or about the same mileage as Chryslers minivans but this is churning out 275 HP and has a 6 speed auto . Very comfortable to sit in , even the 2nd row seats move forward and backward for extra legroom . This can be had for like $30000 msrp , of course you can pay a lot more than that depending what you get , but even the base model has almost anything you would want except maybe the factory dvd player . Will definetly be on the short list when i buy in a few months . If the quality is there they have a major hit on their hands . Also nice to know the powertrain warranty is 100000 miles now . Chrysler needs to follow suit .

I test drove one last week. This vehicle drives very smooth and is extremely quite. At 60 MPH there was virtually no outside noise entering the cabin. I was very impressed.

All wheel drive vs. FWD? by michigal

I've decided to buy the Acadia, love the way it drives/handles, esp compared to mini-vans that I drive now/was going to buy. Another reasons for liking it over mini-vans is that it tows 4500 vs 3500 lbs, (with the tow pkg), which I would use occasionally to pull a small trailer. that said, here's my question: I am thinking about going with the all-wheel drive, thinking it may be useful for towing, and better than traction control in icy conditions, even when not towing - but wonder if that is good rationale, or not? I think the AWD is about $2K more than FWD. Worth it? Also wonder how much that truly costs after a few yrs of depreciation? I'd welcome some opinions from folks experienced in this area!

Neither FWD or AWD will help in icy conditions. If we are talking about snow then yes, AWD is better. I live in NJ which doesn't get as much snow as you do, however, when we do, AWD does make a difference.

As far as depreciation, I would *think* that AWD is more popular in states such as yours and therefore be more sought after than FWD but that's just my opinion.

I'm looking forward to seeing what changes that make for next year. I also believe there is or was a $750 rebate so check the GMC site before your purchase.

Good luck!

just bought an awd acadia, took the first trip in the snow, was very stable and the braking was very good. the only complaint was driver side wiper kept icing up. had to stop every 30 min. or so to knock ice off the blade. was not snowing that hard. anybody else had a problem with this? thanks

Not sure about the wiper blades but did take the Acadia out for a test drive. I really like the vehicle but think the transmission seemed odd like it didn't know when to shift.

Hmm

can't help you on the wiper blades, but there is a known transmission lag problem with the Acadias and Outlooks. There is a software update that can be installed by the dealer that will fix the problem. I bought an Acadia a month ago and mine is in the shop right now having that done. I'll post here with the results once I get it back.
