a lot rides on pricing, pricing, pricing... i'm sure volvo has a strategy in mind.

What do YOU think the price will be? I've seen 2 reports. One was $23k and the other $25k. At $23k, i think its perfect. More power and luxury than a Civic Si for $2k more? Seems right to me. At $25k, its a bit tougher. Volvomax and I discussed pricing recently in the topic I linked in my last post in this topic. Basic stereo a la C40, manual AC, technocloth seats with wanky manumatic controls, manual transmission, cramped quarters.... At least now stability control is standard. Nooooo in terms of value, they should at least price it at or lower than the C40 sedan. The Mini will be serious, serious competition, and has the peculiar quirky British sense of character that many young hatchback buyers will look for, in addition to comparable features and capabilities as the C30. Same goes for the VW GTI. The C30 is still a good car however, I just think they have overpriced it for the value offered. Replying to: pfine (Jan 28, 2007 8:12 am) Ah, but I didn't say it was "luxurious", at least not in stock form. I merely said it would have more luxury than a Civic Si. I assume you meant "S40" sedan. It will be priced lower than that. No worries there. Unless you are thinking it needs to be priced lower than a BASE S40 ... which it might not. It is coming standard with the T5 engine, don't forget.

looks like autoweek is saying official pricing is $23,395 to start. That's good news! PLUS ... 227 hp?? I wonder how or why the bump over the S40 T5? Slight bump in power and 300 lbs lighter should get it down to around 6.5 secs 0-60. Definitely respectable. C30 1.0 price is AMAZING! Sounds like Volvo decided to listen to feedback and struck a great balance between content and price. One question: does the engine require premium (93 octane)? Replying to: otis12 (Apr 06, 2007 4:42 am) As far as I can tell it's going to need premium. At least the mileage numbers should be really good (I figure at least as good as the S40 T5, if not a bit better due to the weight savings).
