Will the C30 get any other engines? I really want one but the T5 is a bit rich for my poor blood. The 2.4i would do well, but that 2.0D looks awesome. Any chance of Volvo american-izing that Diesel? I know the US has much more stringent guidelines, so it would be lame if volvo couldn't get it over here. I imagine the 2.4i is in the works though, anyone have an idea for when? By my calculations (Looking at the price difference between the 2.4i and T5 S40's), it should be about $18,980. Thats a deal

2.4i isn't coming.
Volvo simply isn't interested in the bargain basement market.
Too much competition and no profits.
As it is, the C30 probably won't make them much money at all, at $24,000
Volvo won't have a diesel engine ready for the US market until 2010.
Whether or not they decide to import a diesel will depend on the market conditions at the time.

I think Volvo (and VW) are screwing up big time by not offering high MPG engine options right now. That diesel sounds great and I would buy one, even though I always swore I would never drive a diesel. Gas prices are not going to go down - ever - and any new car I buy from here on out has to get exceptional mileage. Volvo won't have a diesel until 2010? That might be too late for them - the market will be swarming with high mileage cars by then.

Don't blame Volvo and VW for struggling to get Diesels into the US market as the diesel emissions regulations for the US seem to change every other year.

True, but I think it's a matter of priority within the companies. VW does offer diesels right now - really good ones. The just don't offer them on all models, nor do they import their most efficient models. I think the manufacturers can keep up with the regs, the problem is that their marketing departments can't see the forest for the trees. Plus they all have painted themselves into a corner by constantly upping horsepower almost every year and them convincing people that they can't live a quality life without a 300 horsepower fuel snorter.

VW doesn't offer any diesels right now. They extended 2006 MY diesel production for a little while but they couldn't get a diesel to meet 2007 MY regs fast enough.
Mercedes sort of has diesels in the US but I think for right now they are only 45 state compliant.
