And..............Shell tanker drivers have just gone out on a 4 day strike to demand a 13% pay increase as they feel £32k p.a., ($63k ??), is too low and "Shell can afford it". In fact, none are Shell employees; they all work for one of two contract haulage companies. Around here ULSD is around 70 cents more then regular gas which almost wipes out the additional fuel economy diesel provides. ULSD is about 30 cents more then premium unleaded so if you are comparing a vehicle that requires premium to a diesel car then it is ok.

We recently purchased a 2.0 via european delivery program. As we have seen here the configuration options and packaging of options can vary depending on your country of origin. Even the folks at the factory can get confused by what comes standard on different models (trust me). We took about a year to decide what car we would buy this year. It replaces a leased SUV--which we originally decided upon because we felt safe driving it. Given rising gas prices; however, we decided to find something with an average MPG above 20--which lead us to the Mini Clubman. While I think the Mini is a quirky but fun to drive car, it does not exude the same sense of security one feels in an suv (duh! right?) Anyhow, we decided to test drive the C30 on a whim the same day, after the Mini. While the C30 is not as quirky, it is bigger, its fast, handles well, and, well, feels like you're driving a big bulldog down the road! However, I am less than impressed with the 18" wheels that come standard on the US 2.0 version. The Pirrelli (did I spell that right?) tires are not much wider than the rims (if at all). I can just imagine them being scratched the first time we try to pull into a parking spot or the car wash. For those of you with the 2.0 have you changed out the tires to anything with a wider profile--is that even possible? or have you done anything else to help protect your wheels? I took a C30 out for a test drive recently and was quite unimpressed. Although it was a solid riding car with decent acceleration, it was way way overpriced for what you are getting. True it has a stronger engine than a Mazda 3, and Mini, but with just a handful of options, we are talking $32,000! I like the looks, but for these dollars there are many options out there that are more substantial all around. By the way, the dealership had 3 in stock and were not selling too many of them either. In addition, the future for Volvo these days is up for grabs with China looking like a possible buyer. I do like the looks as it brings back my memory of the 1800ES I used to drive.
