First Drive: 2008 Volvo C30 - Although the C30 arrives in the U.S. next summer, it has already gone on sale in Europe so we headed for the U.K. and sampled one on the wrong side of the road. (more)
Full Test: 2008 Volvo C30 - A nicely appointed, strong-performing 2+2 with an upscale flare and a light disposition. (more)

Replying to: volvomax (Jun 10, 2008 9:04 am) As for gettting over $30k, I started with the R Design and added the bluetooth and a few other options (but not the nav system) and I hit $32k in a hurry. You'd think that if they're going to offer a limited-edition model it would come with all the bells and whistles. I've been spoiled by my '93 Saab Turbo Commemorative Edition. It has all the appointments and accessories, the hot engine and the tight suspension. Of course it listed for $32k in 1993 so point well taken about the $50k BMW.

They simply can't afford to make any changes. it would push the price of the car beyond what it already is. but if they're really trying to compete with the Cooper they need to make that sucker sportier. The car is an alternative to the Cooper. The Mini is a good looking car, but I couldn't drive one every day. It's just wayyy to harsh. We have traded for a couple of Coopers already. You'd think that if they're going to offer a limited-edition model it would come with all the bells and whistles. R Design isn't a limited issue car, like the original R. It is merely the replacement for the C30 2.0

The D5 is slightly down-rated from that in the S60, S80, V70, XC70, XC90 etc etc and offers 178bhp/258lbft. C30 + D5 + Geartronic (6-spd) = Yummy. In the bigger cars the D5 gives 185bhp/295lbft..............which is why I love my S60 D5 Geartronic !

Replying to: volvomax (Jun 12, 2008 2:44 pm) Gasoline : £1.23 per litre ULSD : £1.29 per litre So, you see, it's still comparatively cheap for you guys in the Colonies, (sorry, couldn't resist). And..............Shell tanker drivers have just gone out on a 4 day strike to demand a 13% pay increase as they feel £32k p.a., ($63k ??), is too low and "Shell can afford it". In fact, none are Shell employees; they all work for one of two contract haulage companies.
