WILL YOU PEOPLE BE QUIET!!!!! Don't want word to get out on our little secret here. I ordered mine OSD a couple weeks ago--wife doesn't have a clue when I casually mention when, "we'll have to go pick it up." I have a brochure at work and quite a few folks have remarked how they like it. The gals say, "cute" (UGGG!), but the male enthusiasts in the crowd seem to think we may have a classic on our hands here. I tend to agree. So, ya'll just keep the noise level down on this car and enjoy the exclusivity and, above all: DON'T BE A LEMMING!

"For those of you who have a C30 already, how is your ownership experience?" I've had mine since 5 Oct 07. I have ~10500 miles on it and I LOVE IT! I have only seen 1 other than mine in Oklahoma and that was in Mar 08. They got theirs in Nov 07 and mine was the first one they had seen after months of ownership. I'm getting 26 MPG mixed city/highway and 28-29 MPG straight highway. I ONLY use premium gas and have nitrogen in my tires. The best thing about it are the looks and comments you get from others because it is so cool.

Shame you guys don't get the D5. It really is a lovely engine. Some day, hopefully. |

I really wanted to be impressed by this car. It looks good in pictures and the specs are respectable. I've driven a 93 Saab Turbo for years and am looking for a good-looking, sporty coupe or hatchback and I'm 6'4" tall. I test drove the BMW 335i a couple of weeks ago and that is a screaming little package of luxury. 300 HP from a 3 liter 6 cyl with twin turbos and I fit into it just fine. But $50K is a lot of dough. The C30 appealed to me, being Swedish and all and looking sharp too. Unfortunatley my first impression once inside was that something was missing. It's not that they did anything wrong, there just isn't enough of it. Too much expanse of unbroken flat surface without anything interesting or useful. The fit is pretty good with the seat all the way down and back, just like in the Saab and the BMW. The drive is unimpressive. Too soft, too disconnected. I guess I'm used to the sport-tuned suspension of the Saab, but I do like to have some connection with the road when I push it through the corners. I felt safe in the Volvo, as though it wouldn't let me do anything stupid, but hey, I want to make those safety decisions on my own, based upon how well the car is holding in the curves. The dealer was clueless. Didn't know anything about the R series, didn't have any literature on the C30 and and didn't know much about the car. He introduced me to the manager who didn't know any more. I suggested that they might want to visit the Volvo site and bone up on the models they had on the lot. I might be more interested if they offer a steep discount, but when I put together an R series on the Volvo site with the options I wanted and got over $40K I really began to wonder how I could justify that against the BMW with all the options included for $50K and a whole lot more exciting ride. And I know everyone here considers Volvo a premium brand, and they do seem to have the safety thing down, but if you want to experience a true premium brand, complete with all the safety features, drive a BMW. I think Volvo could have done better with this one.

The MSRP of the C3- R Design with some useful options like Blutooth and premium sound, etc. was $32,000, not $40,000 as I said in my previous post. Still a pretty big jump from the base price. I would be more impressed if the R Design included a performance package instead of just styling elements. How about another 15HP and a handling package? Then they'd have something!

FYI, I'm 56 and like performance cars. That's not an age thing. |
