| One guy on VWvortex saw an accessory video. That video mentioned the RNS-510. The good news is that there might be a retrofit option. For those without the nav or have the 2008 nav now you can retrofit it. The dealer can install it as well. It will probably come with the unit, maps, Sirius extension or the sharkfin AM/FM/GPS/Sirius, AM/FM antenna adaptors, GPS antenna. Also it might include programming. Now you don't have to get an 09 to enjoy the RNS-510. | |
See more Car Pictures at CarSpace.com See more Car Pictures at CarSpace.com Pics of the new MDI unit aka Media Interface. This works with 2008 and 2009 models. Even the 2007 GTI's can use this provided that their radio works great. Works with the RNS-510 and other VW radios. With the iPod cable you get full integration. There are also USB and Aux in cables. This can replace the Aux in with the right cable. The USB cable can only use thumbdrives. iPod needs the dock cable. Needs a special harness but supposedly there is a factory one. The Unit isn't technically out but it will debut with the Tiguan. Mounts where the armrest changer. Could be in the glove box on some models. Rumor has it that you can have this and the cd changer. Hope this helps. |

http://www.lutschi.biz/album/RNS510/index.html Some pics of the EU spec RNS-510. US version has different buttons but is very identical. US version will have Sirius Radio and traffic. US version will have bluetooth support as well. This might entice some people PS: The RNS-510 has 3 different display options. Highline, Sportline and Premium. Highline is black and silver, Sportline is silver and black, Premium is all black. I assume that the R32 will get the Sportline when the RNS-510 is installed. You can change the display in VCDS aka VAG-COM. VCDS 803.0 is the only suitable programmer for the RNS-510 besides the dealer. Sound systems with an amplifer will need programming by VCDS. |

The MK VI concept of the R is based on the new Scirocco. The concept retains the signature aluminum grille modified for this body. It has basically the same interior as the current MK V but with some modifications that reminded me of the Eos. I very much doubt VW will repeat with another 3.2 V6. The new fuel economy and emission regulations worldwide are the new reality the engineers face. The price of gas is the new marketplace reality. I think the new motor might be a modified high output 2.0 with dual turbos. Also, the DSG could get the 7 speed with this engine size. I expect the new price to climb into the mid to upper 30s. Maybe optional 19s.

The Sirius traffic mentions a 2009 R32 as compatible vehicles for this service. That means if a 2009 R32 comes out then it will have the RNS-510. The RNS-510 navigation system has this feature. All 2009 VW's with Nav will get the new RNS-510 which will replace the MFD2.
