All 09 VW's are going to get the RNS-510 no matter what. Even though the Skoda/VW European OEM bluetooth module works with it there could be a USA one. One guy's USA RNS-510 mentioned Bluetooth Audio. The RNS-510 has sirius and HDRadio built in.

Euro Version but should give you a great idea of what it should look like. The USA version again has Sirius and HD radio. USA version will have Bluetooth audio. There will also be Sirius Traffic as well. The USA version has a slightly different button layout. Also shows the Premium Bluetooth. USA version might be like it but won't have SOS. Could be possible to have 911 instead. The regular bluetooth is identical but wont have SOS. Hope this helps.

Routan won't get the RNS-510. That model uses a Chrysler MyGiG unit. Can't use the RNS-510 on that one.

MDI by rv65

The MDI interface is now avaliable in the USA etka.

Module: P/N 5N0 035 341
iPod cable: P/N 4F0 051 510 E
USB cable: P/N 5N0 035 558

Requires a custom harness since it needs to send the tags to the can bus. Works with the RNS-510 and other headunits. RNS-510 gets full integration. Also a non nav version of the RNS-510 will be avaliable. That version will be called the RCD-510. No Hard drive but it does have a 6 disc MP3/WMA changer. It too will have touchscreen bluetooth and MDI support.

If you are thinking about getting the iPod adaptor for VW then don't get it. It's far inferior when compared to the MDI. Hope this helps.

Might not be the right one. But 5N0 035 341 A is the right one. USB cable is included. iPod part number isn't right. Hope this helps.

Retrofit kit by rv65

One guy on VWvortex saw an accessory video. That video mentioned the RNS-510. The good news is that there might be a retrofit option. For those without the nav or have the 2008 nav now you can retrofit it. The dealer can install it as well. It will probably come with the unit, maps, Sirius extension or the sharkfin AM/FM/GPS/Sirius, AM/FM antenna adaptors, GPS antenna. Also it might include programming. Now you don't have to get an 09 to enjoy the RNS-510.

Pics of the new MDI unit aka Media Interface. This works with 2008 and 2009 models. Even the 2007 GTI's can use this provided that their radio works great. Works with the RNS-510 and other VW radios. With the iPod cable you get full integration. There are also USB and Aux in cables. This can replace the Aux in with the right cable. The USB cable can only use thumbdrives. iPod needs the dock cable. Needs a special harness but supposedly there is a factory one. The Unit isn't technically out but it will debut with the Tiguan. Mounts where the armrest changer. Could be in the glove box on some models. Rumor has it that you can have this and the cd changer. Hope this helps.

Some pics of the EU spec RNS-510. US version has different buttons but is very identical. US version will have Sirius Radio and traffic. US version will have bluetooth support as well. This might entice some people . There are plans for a retrofit kit. Cant let the 09 owners have all the fun. Works with the MDI. 1st vwparts says it includes the harness with their MDI kit. Enjoy.

PS: The RNS-510 has 3 different display options. Highline, Sportline and Premium. Highline is black and silver, Sportline is silver and black, Premium is all black. I assume that the R32 will get the Sportline when the RNS-510 is installed. You can change the display in VCDS aka VAG-COM. VCDS 803.0 is the only suitable programmer for the RNS-510 besides the dealer. Sound systems with an amplifer will need programming by VCDS.

Might not be an 09 R32 . If it does come it will get the new RNS-510 with the MDI. The MDI again has USB, Aux-in and iPod support. iPod is supported with a special cable. Also works with approved non iPod players. Also comes with an Aux in cable in addition to the USB cable. Mounts in the glove box. Price for the new RNS-510 is 1,990 USD with the MDI. The RNS-510 has a 30 GB Hard drive. 10 GB for NAV and 20 GB for music. You can rip audio cd, mp3, and WMA to it. MP3 and WMA can be ripped by either CD, DVD, or SD slot. SD cards work but only up to 2 GB. 06 GTI owners can also retrofit this as well. The MDI can display songs over the MFI. Also properly integrates the iPod. Hope this helps.

I guess an RNS-510 2009 R32 isn't going to happen. The good news is that it's retrofittable. So just get the 08 model and retrofit it . The MDI can also be retrofitted. Doesn't come with the iPod cable though. 4F0 051 510 E is the part number for that. An RNS-510 retrofit kit is in the works. Also Bluetooth is coming out within 6 months and should integrate with the RNS-510's touch screen. Also should work with the multifunction steering wheel with missing phone button.
