I thought "why can't this be here in California sooner?"

One other thing I thought is that it would be good (and perfect for) the wagon. Hopefully that gets rolled out soon afterward. That would be a great replacement for my wife's Volvo XC90 in about three years.

I have been watching the developments on this for quite some time. This blend of mileage/performance in a mid-sized luxury car is really compelling. Do I prefer a bit faster acceleration---DEFINITELY, but at a certain point it starts to seem a bit too self-indulgent given our dependence on mideast oil.

I keep wanting to hear about combining some of these modern diesel engines with hybrid technology. Now that could produce some serious mpg AND performance applications.

This article makes me even happier with my decision to purchase the 320 Bluetec. My vehicle was arriving Baltimore harbor this past Thursday. Can't wait for delivery!

Interesting article. I have been thinking about buying a Mercedes E320 Bluetec, however I am somewhat stumed by the issue with the availability of the ultra low sulphur diesel. It seems that in my area, New York New Jersey all the diesel pumps have the label sayi ng that they do not carry it and using what they have may affect any diesel engine 2007 or newer
Can you offer any help?
Thanks

this is my sixth diesel since '73 and is the absolute best. I get between 33-38mpg (700 mile to a tank). it is powerful, , to drive and extremely comfortable. All of the electronics are user friendly and work well.
not every station has ultra low, but with 700 miles range obtaining fuel is not difficult (Hess has Ultra).
my 99 has 220000 and ran perfectly with no repairs - was totalled in accident.
Great value - great car!

Hopefully, the fuel you save isn't wasted trying to find a station with ULSD pumps. It's good to read all the good reviews about the Bluetec though.

I sell M-B's for a living. I have to say that before I began selling Mercedes-Benz, I would never have considered a diesel. Now that I have driven the E320 Bluetec for a while, I am completely impressed by this motor. It has tons of power combined with awesome fuel economy. And the E-class is already a great vehicle. The E320 Bluetec is almost the perfect car. Now if only M-B would offer the E-class sport package on the E320 BT it WOULD be the perfect car.

This motor is available in all the SUV's as well. It performs just as well in the SUV's as it does in the E-class. Here in Texas ULSD fuel is available all over the place so gassing up is easy. I am sold!

As an MB salesperson, perhaps you have some insight for me. I purchased an 8,000 mile Bluetec e-class two days ago. I am considering an extended warranty and found one through Edmunds at warranty direct. I also have a quote from AAA. Both at around $3,000 for the 100,000 mile, 6 year warranty. Would you recommend an independent warranty company such as these, or the one MB offers? Any guidance would be appreciated.
