stop spewing nonsense plz.

at the same rpm, the ms3 makes more hp and tq than the gti, period. performance wise the ms3 spanks the gti soundly. no contest.

the si is quite slow, as top gear proved on the track with the stig. it produces nice numbers for a N/A engine, but it isn't anywhere near a gti or ms3.

as for the "lack of engineering" that you drone on about, i guess thats why the ms3 engine won an award as one of the best engines of 2006, eh?

as for engineering quality, i'll let the apallingly poor customer sat scores for VW speak for themselves. seems GTIs spend more time in the shops than on the road. just read the edmunds vw forums for endless tales of woe and misery -- strangely lacking from honda or mazda or subaru forums.

what makes you think tuners are shunning the speed3? no potential? lol. you can bump the car up to around 300hp with just a CAI and exhaust. no potential? only in your mind.

Please remember that this discussion is about cars, not people.
Avoid the trap of making this a personal thing about each other.

well thats your opinion, obviously we arent going to convince each other or come to some conclusion. and your not going to gain 40 hp from a cai or exhaust. Exhaust will make it sound good, but when the exhaust is forced through the catalytic converter, which is where all the restriction is, putting bigger piping behind it doesnt make a whole lotta sense. you might gain a couple hp at higher rpm, but lose a couple in the lower, really just splittin hairs. Sounds good tho...Anyway, im sure youll disagree and say its possible to gain 40 hp from a CAI and exhaust, lets not argue and get back to the discussion.

eh, i guess theres not much more to say, lol.
Lets try talking about the cars that arent talked about very much, The cobalt SS and the mini cooper S. Havent driven the Cooper, only got a trip around the block in the cobalt. Im not too particular to the style of the SS, and its got a cheap econo interior. Its got some juice, being supercharged n all, but i thought it would be quicker, maybe it weighs too much. probably not tuned very well either. I thought it would have a lil more kick... Couple points for effort?
Hell id prolly have taken the mini over it, even tho its more like "my moms" type of sports car. Then again ive never driven or even sat in one.
anyone have a long drive in either?

what some auto mag or engine reviewer rates as one of the best engines in 2006 is irrelevant to me: the gti's engine has been winning awards all over the place.

as for engineering quality, i'll let the apallingly poor customer sat scores for VW speak for themselves. seems GTIs spend more time in the shops than on the road. just read the edmunds vw forums for endless tales of woe and misery -- strangely lacking from honda or mazda or subaru forums.

have you been to the gti forums? there are not a whole lot of problems there; most posters post once and leave, some of them are actually talking about previous gen gti's!

strangely lacking in subie/honda/mazda forums? have you been to those? the pages are endless!!!

no one is arguing that the ms3 engine makes more hp and tq; but many have commented on it lack of breath in higher rpm ranges. mazda needed a engine that was big and blown, because otherwise, there would be nothing special about it. you think honda and vw are running around worrying about the ms3? sorry their fanbase is more passionate and cares more then about just being the best and having the best numbers.

what makes you think tuners are shunning the speed3? no potential? lol. you can bump the car up to around 300hp with just a CAI and exhaust. no potential? only in your mind.

uh...the fact that no one is tuning it? its already maxed out at its fullest potential, its not a good platform to work on.

40 hp with just and intake and exhaust? ha ha ha! good one. You need to educate yourself on what makes power, and maybe that will also understand the dyno figures of these 3 engines, and my arguments in general.

another thing; the fact that there is an intake and exhaust for the car means nothing, you can get an intake and exhaust for a cavalier. does that make it a good tuner. nope. and just to show you how its getting snubbed, who do you think makes these products for the speed 3?

Mazda does.

previous vw engines won awards for sludging.

who do you think makes these products for the speed 3?

huh. street unit? injen? xede? fujita? there are lots of others...

does cobb ring a bell? maybe?

of course some people might appreciate the fact that there's a manufacturer-supplied CAI and CBE that carry a full warranty.

if the mazdaspeed3 engine is already maxxed out, why would we be seeing 287fwhp/310tq just from an ecu mod?

have you even been to that VW lemon site? lol, not even ONE post about a 06+ GTi... all the posts are older GTi's. anyway, I agree and think the speed 3 really is exactly like the dodge Srt-4. If im buying a mazda, Its a Rx-7

most of the companies you mentioned make intakes, whoop dee do.

ugh those hp tq numbers.... i can't even imagine what its like to drive a uber heavy fwd car with that much power.

ecu mods usually do raise power though, and that is to be expected. except that theres not much else you can do is there?

even the gti's engine is pushing 240 in some stock cars in europe, i think its a high performance version of the a3.

sure some people appreciate the warranty, but when it comes to modding you probably are not really worried about that to being with, and the numbers you quoted are TOTALLY TOTALLY off, no way there is 40hp added just by those 2 things. not even at the crank.

and the fact remains; the ms3 is still not getting tuner attention, despite the few parts.

uber heavy fwd car compared to what, a mkv gti?

huh. o_O

tis funny how you are complaining that a modded ms3 has "too much" hp/tq now. lollerskates!

if you don't like ~300hp/tq on a fwd ms3 then why would a gti be exempt? especially considering stock it has no lsd and softer suspension? i guess that you are writing off modded gti's as well.

no, not writing them off at all...but i'm comparing them stock to stock, and then mentioning aftermarket potential.

the gti is exempt because it doesn't have that kind of power...if it did, the delivery would still be very linear like it already is instead of the dead/alive/dead delivery of the ms3.

the mazdaspeed is considerably heavier than the mkV...and heavier than a lot of cars. Even modding a gti with a new ecu and maybe a new intercooler and upgraded springs/shocks and a strut bar or two would be a better drive imo.
