2009 Rondo prices? by glitch1

My local area doesn't seem to have any '08 Rondos. I'm curious what people's experiences are with buying '09 Rondos? I would be looking at a 4-cylinder LX. Today, the local dealer was going for around $18K, but I did not make an offer, since I was unable to commit to buying right away.

Keep in mind the 09 Toyota Matrix, Pontiac Vibe (same car) well equipped at $19500 or so msrp are selling for about 15k or less . About 16k for the Mazda5. All of them sell used in their 08 trade in values about $12000. The Mazda3 hatch 09 sells for about $16000 also, with the 09 Hyundai Elantra touring possibly in the 14000's.

The 09 Kia Rondo auto Lx well equipped has a 08 used trade in value of about 9000 in kbb.com. This is what the 09 will be worth in 12 months. So we wanna be buying the 09 Rondo used in the $12-13000 range, or just looking at something else, unless we really really want a Rondo.

Good luck

If trade in values are important to you, the previous post is relevant. Some of us drive our cars for 200,000 plus miles and don't worry about trade in values.

I never trade my cars in and have driven all my cars over 10 years (15+ with my current vehicle now).

It seems when you sell/trade your Rondo within the first few years, you are flushing 5 years worth of power-train warranty down the toilet. This is significant value that is part of your Kia if you keep the car, but thrown away if you sell it. So if the trade-in value is $10K, it's actually worth $10K to someone else, but maybe worth $12K to you, since keeping it allows you to retain a great warranty.

Glitch - where are you located? There is a dealer in my area, Chicagoland, with several 09s in stock at what seems to be reasonable asking prices.

Hi Kasikin,
I am located in Portland, OR. May I ask what the dealers in your area are asking for an LX 4 cylinder? I have one dealer here getting down to the low $16K.

Thanks.

There is one dealer who has several who has them listed on the internet at 17.5, but has a place to "make an offer", so I'd imagine they'd come down some. That's the lowest asking price I've seen. Many of the local dealers have 1 or none in stock. I have been trying to find an 08 in the midwest for a friend, have seen a few but none that meet her requirements.

I think low 16's is a great price for a 09 if you are getting what you want. I paid a little over 18 for my 08 EX V6 7, fully loaded. While I did get them to give me a little more for my battered Honda Odyssey than they originally offered, I did not really negotiate on price. After I got the car, I told my husband I probably could have gotten it cheaper and he pointed out to me that it was less than any of our previous 3 cars, and was exactly what I wanted. I've had it since early April and thus far, couldn't be happier.

Last week I saw quite a few 08 Rondo in an Ohio dealer at Toledo if you are still looking for one in midwest. Otherwise, there is really one or none per dealer in my area and the one left may have hundreds of miles on it from test driving already.

I just bought a used 2008 lx with V6 and 3rd row seat, alloy wheels for $11,200. It only had 13,500 miles on it and it didn't seem to make sense to buy new. Quite a few used for sale in Rochester, NY area, most seem to be rentals.

It depends on whether you can find a new 2008 right now. You may need to pay $3K-$5K more depending on options, but you'll get 20% more bumper to bumper warranty and 5 more years power train warranty on a new one. Not to mention the mechanical wearing in 13.5k miles and the worry on the unknown previous history (e.g. not probably break-in if it was a rental) should be the major consideration too. Most people do not realize the 10 year power train warranty, which is one of the prime factors in Kia's rating calulation, is not transferable. This is one of the main reason for the depreciation in resale value. Last but not least, if you want to sell it some time down the road, being the first owner of the car makes it more appealing. I sold my 13 year old Saturn at the high blue book price range within a couple days on craigslist because of that.
Don't get me wrong. I am not saying don't but used Rondo. I am only pointing out the factors you should considerate when you are looking at the price of a used one. Indeed, the lower resell value of Rondo makes it a good choice as its reliability is above average (just outside of top 10).
