>...Okay, still shopping around ... one dealer said that in both the 07 and 08 models you can't get the third row without going to the larger engine .... is this right??? It doesn't seem so from the listings of what people bought here ...
[Gill] For the Seattle market area I believe this is true. Although the I-4 is a peppy engine, it would have problems pulling on a hill (has this issue with just 4 in the vehicle). It's for that reason I would have taken a V-6.

>...Also, they say they definitely have the 08s in stock ... which may mean being able to get an even better deal on the 07.
[Gill] There isn't a cintilla of difference between the two model years. Look to the KIA web site to see the "specials" on the 07s and do your homework, then go trading in the last week of March. This is the end of the quarter and dealers have to make their numbers and they are more apt to "deal" close to the bone to bake numers or a favorable "customer satisfaction index" number. Both those issues were in play when I purchased last March.

>...In any case, they are listing the exact car (except the larger engine) we want:
urban gray
LX w a/c
third row
conveneince pkg
crossbars
 and the larger engine.
 LIsting: 20300
[Gill] I can't get to my sales invoice, but that seems a little large to me. I got the same car, except for color and no 3rd seat, for the low $17s as I remember.

>...My take:
Invoice (per KBB) 19,245.00 (so they say).
will shoot for 19, 500
minus 2500 cash back = 17000
minus 1500 competitive cash = 15500
minus 2500 trade in ... hopefully ... = 13000 (may only be 2000, so 13500)
down of 500 = 12500 (or 13000)
[Gill] A trade-in will put a crimp in the deal. These guys want a simple deal without complications. I might suggest that you see the trade-in as a private party.

>...I hope that we can do that... I still have to pay the $35 for the forementioned site to see how this compares to what they say.
[Gill] Look at Costco (on line) to establish the upper end of the trading range and then use the site I mentioned to get to the bottom line. I doubt you will get much below $1,099 from invoice as this cuts to deep. At that price the dealer acknowledged that he was loosing money on the sale, but would make a slight profit if he made his numbers.

Gill -

thanks ... I am pretty desparate to get rid of my current car , so this is going to possess a dilemma for me...

I'll look through the sites you mention, and follow-up on what we do...

momgray2,

I own that exact car ('07 model), urban gray, LX, 4 cylinder, convenience package (a/c, roof rails, etc.), and 3rd row that you are looking for. Got it for $18k after taxes & everything, you should be able to do much better than that.

From what I understand, if you want the EX, you have to get V6 engine to get the 3rd row, but with the LX you can get the I4 engine and the 3rd row (as I did).

Sounds to me like you should go to a different dealer, they probably want to sell you the V6 and/or '08 model and are lying to do it.

The I4 is plenty, even on hills. I've driven all around PA with lots of stuff/people in it without any problems. Its no sports car, but it is not underpowered and accelerates better than any mini van I've ever been next to.

BTW, if you want the best price, you'll have to hunt around yourself to find a dealer that has what you want, otherwise any dealer should be able to locate it for you but you'll probably pay a few hundred more if its off another dealer's lot.

Hi,
New on here but interested in a Rondo. How does the following sound ??

New 07 EXV6 with premium pkg, leather interior w/heated seats, lower spoiler (stupid item, but on car) bumper protector, cargo tray.

$20,000.00 out the door. (includes tax, title, all fees, etc)

Cash deal - no trade.

Here is what I was shooting for:

Invoice (per KBB) 19,245.00 (so they say).
will shoot for 19, 500
minus 2500 cash back = 17000
minus 1500 competitive cash = 15500
minus 2500 trade in ... hopefully ... = 13000 (may only be 2000, so 13500)

and ... here is what I ended up with ...
Invoice 18949 (per their paperwork)
-2000 trade in
-1500 competitive cash
-2500 cash back ....
Which should be around 12949 + doc fee(150), 7% state sales (907), 1.25% city tax(162) , .75 county tax (97), $80 license registration ... which is 14385. (note on the paperwork they gave me about how much it would cost, they based the tax on 16949, so it looked way higher - not sure what the taxes really will be on ....) ... but still .. I got it for

14100 out the door

they said they'd only pay 2000 for the trade in (at least that was what was on my paperwork).

BUT ... they did not have it in stock. They think they can find it without the crossbars and then install then in-house, as they found that vehicle listed as being available at the local warehouse (or whatever it is called); price is 13900 without crossbars.

thank you so much ... especially for telling me that I did NOT have to take a v6 to get the third row.

I just bought a five-seater EX V6 with premium and leather packages last month for just over $19K; it did not have spoiler, bumper protector or cargo tray like the one you are looking at. The $19K included tax (3%), title, processing fee and $2500 rebate. I could have done better, but I wanted Urban Gray, it was the only one that I could find in the area, and I didn't want to lose it. I looked at the Kia cargo tray, didn't like it, and bought a nicer one made for the Rondo from Weathertech for about $120.

Thx again, already saw it. Now I'll lower the amount I was going to offer for the one I'm looking at.

'07 LX by vanner

Working on a deal on an '07 LX, new, two-row, I-4. Louisville dealers all connected and TOUGH! But, we may be able to swing the full $4K in rebates ($2500 for the 07 and $1500 "loyalty".)

We'll be trading our '05 Sedona LX (32K miles and "good" by all descriptions with service up-to-date.)

The Rondo tags at $18,400. That's $14,400 after the rebates. I'd like $8K for the Sedona but I'm betting they'll head for $7K. Still, this sounds okay to me.

Ideas? (We want out of the Sedona and the only place we're going to get any trade around here is back at a Kia dealer. Other dealers around here would rather handle anthrax than a Kia.)

It'll be the wife's car as is the Sedona now. She sat in it, drove it, and declared it not just "nice" but that she loved it. Easy car to love, and for some odd reason it just "fits like an old shoe". She notes she sits a little lower than the Sedona and liked the old "view" better, but I'm betting she'll adjust quickly, and it sure is better still than a sedan.

I'm 6'2" at 215 and I fit easily in the back seat, where I was quite completely comfortable and well insulated from road noise and bumps. The Rondo is MUCH less harsh than the Sedona.

I'm actually shopping for a 4-cylinder for many of my own reasons. Gas mileage ain't one of 'em since there just isn't that much difference. Both the hp and torque are fine with the I-4 with that transmission. It stepped right out on the freeway on-ramp and moves out from stoplights just dandy with one big adult and two normal ones.

Looked at a lot of different brands over the last little while, and went to a few dealers today with an open mind. Could have settled for a sedan like a Camry or Altima or Accord. One item of note: the "extras" at dealers tagged on for margin are simply embarrassing and insulting!

$99 for "fabric protection" is awfully steep for a couple of cans of Scotch Guard! Something on some Saturn Auras - "paint weather proofing" at $350! Good Lord! They are CLEAR COATED and there's this stuff called WAX at $7 a can!!! Car buying is a very adversary relationship nowadays!
