We sold the car in less than three days with an ad in the Tacoma paper. >However, I live in Bellingham & will am talking with Smith Kia about a Costco price which is basically $300 over invoice (including shipping & advertising costs. [Gill] That's the standard Costco price I found when I faxed around or I got MSRP. >But I think I can do better than that, especially with Oct 31 just around the corner. [Gill] He can go down $1,099 under invoice and still make a good profit if he makes his numbers for the quarter. You might also want to consider taking a 07 once the 08s come out. The factory gives a nice discount to the purchaser just to clear inventory. >So far I am not impressed with the 2 sales guys I have spoken with They are young, polite, but very laid back & do not seem very eager or motivated. They certainly are not pushy! Any chance you can divulge the name of the sales manager you dealt with? Thanks. [Gill] The person's nane was Jason and he is the finance manager for the Kia operation and their chevrolet dealership in Everett. But, since you have opened a conversation with two of the salesmen, that might complicate things a bit since they would be entitled to some of any commission. I can tell you, that you probably won't find a better car than the Rondo. We went on a 9,000 mile road trip across the country to the east coast. Loaded with luggage, my wife and I as well as two 17 year olds, and crusing consistantly at 70 to 75, I got 29 mph on my I4. Around town here, I get 25. Not one problem with the vehicle now that I have 13,000 + on it. We are well satisfied and considering giving the car to our twin grandsons and we will get a Sadona.

You could say it was love at 1st sight when I spotted a Rondo in the dealer backlot Nov 06. I though i was a wonderful combo of size, comfort for 4-5 passengers, economy, & safety features for under $20K. Only one problem - we did not a new vehicle! But I have been following the Rondo ever since & just helped a co-worker purchase one. With all the standard equipment the only option she needed was AC. Armed with the MSRP of $17,990 & invoice of $17,100 (AC & floor mats), I called 5 area dealers 100 mile radius) & found 3 cars that meet our wants. All were on the same lot - naturally the furthest away! I then emailed the dealers & heard back from 3. I called them & asked what the difference was between the Costco price & the internet price - they all said would be the same. The complicating factor was having a 98 Ford Ranger trade-in that we had not been able to sell privately. I started with our local dealer who did not have the right car on the lot. I told them we needed an out the door price of $13,300. Negotiations went pretty quickly without a lot of hassle (sales guy only had to go back to the boss twice). They gave us the NADA wholesale price for Ranger ($3,500). Adding on sales tax (8.6%) taxes & registration, license, miscell taxes, they came within $60 of our target price & I decided it was not worth the time & effort to go 30 to 100 miles down the road & dicker with a trade-in... With a $2,000 rebate we got out the door for $13,360 plus a free oil change & full tank of gas. As best I can figure our actual cost was $17,469 vs Edmonds TMV of 17,763. Perhaps we could have done better without the trade-in, but given time constraints of work & the rebate ending Oct 31, it looked pretty good. In the end we got the what we wanted at a price that seemed fair to us & the dealer. My friend will be adding an aftermarket alarm & remote entry system with a lifetime waranty for $289. Maybe get a cargo cover from Kaipartspeople.com later. I truly appreciate Edmunds & these forums that provide so much information about viturally every vehicle available. I also think it is great that they have a long term Rondo. It will be fun to compare their experiences to that of my co-worker. |

I just purchased a new 07 rondo lx... sticker 18900 for 14000. This is the base model auto a/c convience pkg 4 cyl. could have had low finance and 500 off but took the entire 2500 rebate and negotiated form there. Dealer was commonwealth and both the salesman and the sm were pleasant and non pushy. Grind consisted of six easy steps msrp, 15500 15000 14700 14500 14250 and the final (where i started 14000) I think the fact its an 07 helped a ton. anyone got one cheaper?

2007 LX I-4, Urban Gray, with AT and A/C (don't they all have?), roof rack, 7-seats. Final price: $9900, with $6500 trade = $16,400 in the driveway. The trade was a 2001 Camry with 80K, valued at the time by KBB at $6200. So I was real pleased all around. This dealer was trying hard to clear the '07's. Now, after 4 months and 3500 miles, I am realizing just what an excellent vehicle the Rondo is, making me think I stole something and owe somebody some money! |

We're in the process of getting a new car... we have been to one dealership in the San Fernando Valley, CA, so far, just to find out that they only had a Rondo LX in their lot - 5 seater. For some (good) reasons my husband absolutely wants the 3rd row, so we'll probably check out the 7 seater this weekend in Glendale, CA. I eMailed the dealership in Glendale, and here's his response for a fully loaded Rondo: >>>Our Rondo comes with leather and moon roof and 3rd row, the MSRP is $25,105 and your internet price after all discounts and rebate is only $19,867. <<< I am not sure if this is a LX or EX model, I believe it is an EX model as only EX models come with optional leather seats. I am not sure if it is the V4 or V6 model, too. Do you guys think it's a good price? I wonder how much lower they could go. I have to admit, I never even owned a car, I'll be much likely to just take over my husband's Toyota Corolla while he'll be driving the Rondo (so no trade-in). We have seen the 5 seater and really liked it, but the 3rd row would be the creme de la creme... Any advice on this? An alternative would be the Mazda5 Sport / Touring. Thanks - by the way, it seems the people who actually got a Rondo really like it - that's good to hear! |

Replying to: marinal (Jan 25, 2008 6:26 pm) [Gill] Your husband is smart. I purchased the 5 seater last March and I find that there are times when I wish I had that third row especially when I am hauling the grandkids around town. I eMailed the dealership in Glendale, and here's his response for a fully loaded Rondo: [Gill] E-mail/fax all the dealers within a reasonable distance and basically tell them what you are looking for and what is there best price. If there is a Costco auto program in your area, the affiliated dealer should offer the vehicle for $100 over invoice excluding the group advertising fee and shipping. That way, you can get an idea of the upper limits of your offer. >...Our Rondo comes with leather and moon roof and 3rd row, the MSRP is $25,105 and your internet price after all discounts and rebate is only $19,867. I am not sure if this is a LX or EX model, I believe it is an EX model as only EX models come with optional leather seats. I am not sure if it is the V4 or V6 model, too. [Gill] Although leather can be special ordered on an EX, it usually isn't because the Ex is a mid range car. However, if it has a 3rd row, then it has a V6. >Do you guys think it's a good price? I wonder how much lower they could go. I have to admit, I never even owned a car, [Gill] I will be honest and blunt with you. You are in no position to buy a car because you don't have any idea of the cost basis. They will eat you alive. Once you find out that data, you are ready. Also, it well may be worth your while to wait until the last week of this quarter when the factory rebates are much higher and they need to move merchandise. Last year, KIA was offering $5k in cash back on the Sadona. >...I'll be much likely to just take over my husband's Toyota Corolla while he'll be driving the Rondo (so no trade-in). We have seen the 5 seater and really liked it, but the 3rd row would be the creme de la creme... [Gill] No trade-in makes the deal a lot cleaner. >...Any advice on this? [Gill] Yes, go to fightingchance . com and pay $35 for an analysis of the pricing. Using their strategy, I got my Rondo for $1,099 under invoice. It really works. >...An alternative would be the Mazda5 Sport / Touring. Thanks - by the way, it seems the people who actually got a Rondo really like it - that's good to hear! I purchased my I-4 Rondo in March of 07 in the Seattle market area; drove it to up state New York; to Washington, DC; and, back to the Tacoma area. Loaded with baggage, two large teens, and my wife and I. We consistantly got 27 to 30 mph. The milage dipped to 25 around town as we approached the 15K mini-tune-up. After that, we are back to the 27 mph figure. My only complaint is that the vehicle is noisy on a concrete road.
