I think we might need a dedicated thread.

I just bought an RX350 (07) for 37450 plus TT. It was a pretty pleasant experience, but one thing is they tried to sell me separate service contract. It was 50000 miles service plus extended warranty (to 100K miles) for a bit less than $4K. The SUV needs a service every 5K miles and the first service is free anyway, so it's like 9 services.

I live in bay area, CA. I am just wondering whether it's worth it.

The good: they not only do the service but also take care of transporting the car for it, so I don't have to drive to the dealer myself.

The bad: payment up front, and I personally do not care for extended warranty much (although it might be good for resale).

I drive less than 10K miles a year and plan to keep the vehicle for at least five years.

Any comments? Especially for previous Lexus owner. How much does it cost you for service?

I signed the service contract separately but could call back before Wednesday to cancel it. So your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

It's not exactly the same as EW. It's actually a (prepaid) maintenance plan which covers all maintenance for 50000 miles, and Extended Warranty is also included.

So I'd like to see whether the cost of all the maintenance justifies it.

I am considering an extended warranty. WHat is your experience with AAAutoWarranty or other companies?
thanks, Mjd2

Make sure you know what type of EW they offered.
There are gold and platinum. Platinum costs more, but covers more parts.
I say buy only the EW, not the 50K service.
I saved $700 on 7yrs/100K miles/$0 deductible/platinum
when I showed them an on-line quote from another Lexus
dealer.

I looked at Auto repair Warranty. online they appear to be covering all bases. and very affordable bumper to bumper coverage.

$1860 for 7yrs/100K/$0 deductible, Platinum coverage. It's
a Lexus warranty.

Compare the list of their scheduled maintenace and included items to the schedule in the owners manual. Most of the time these prepaid maintenance plan may include a lot of items that may be a good ideal, but are not specifically recommended by the manufacturer. Yes, you do need to have the oil & filter changed on a regular schedule but using a $40 per change cost, that works out to maybe $400. Now find out the other services required by the manufacturer and also the cost of the Extended Warranty.

So, if the extended warranty cost $2000 for example and the oil changes are $400, the total is $2400. So, you need to find out if the remaining required items are worth $1600 (assuming $4000 cost.)

I believe they charge $100 per oil change visit. The first
oil change is on the house.
