Anyone care to opine whether GM can make Caddy the world standard again? I mean, I enjoyed the 80's too, but what have they done for me lately? (glad you liked 'em Fin).

| Except for Lexus, (which has about as much soul as a paper plate) the foreign luxury benchmarks are perfect for the rich masochist who's too proud for whips and chains. I sat in an Audi A8 at the Philadelphia Auto Show. The car seemed to be extremely well-built, had a sumptuous interior, and an arrogant demeanor. However, I'd be positively terrified of this car when it is out of warranty. It would probably bankrupt Bill Gates! | |

Cadillac did not enter the competition, but rather an english car salesman, who happened to like what Leland was doing with Cadillac, entered the Cadillacs in the competition. The idea was to get some of the European car manufacturers to enter the competition too, but none of them did. |

...I'd truly be comfortable out of warranty is a Buick Park Avenue or Lucerne. It sucks to think of any modern luxury car as a "throwaway item" once it is out of warranty. I would love to keep my new Cadillac DTS Performance as long as my 1989 Cadillac Brougham, but it just doesn't seem to be in the cards from what I'm reading here. I'd hate to think of my old ride victimizing a person of modest means looking for some "cheap bling" in the future. The BHPH lots in the Lower NE of Philadelphia are full of lots filled with out-of-warranty luxury cars seeking new victims.

Things can quickly reach a point where your time and money is better applied to leasing a new one and letting the manufacturer pick up the tab on maintenance.
