I did stop to look at a 2004 SRX today, but it was locked. The door panels look a lot like the CTS. The STS interior appears to have a soft insert above the arm rest, if one can make that judgement from pictures.

The CTS platform is also used on the Cadillac SRX and the STS, both offer V8 engines.

I am very suprised by that! Gm has a good platform to use but continues to use the old ones or use new ones that sould benifit for an old one. EG, Impala ss/ grandprix GXP. Wouldn't they do well with that great v8 and a RWD platform like the cts'?

Speaking of great v8s, has anyone hear of gm working on a replacement for the northsatar? Motortrend thinks there is also!

The northstar is a great engine but its old and needs great tweaking or a replacement. Take a look in that badge on the picture... XLR, STS, CTS-V, DTS, or SRX!?!?

Sigma program is too expensive for Chev/Pontiac. That is why the Zeta program is going to be used on Impala/G8. It is alos RWD/V8 capable.

I think that picture is the current Northstar V8.

Your post exaggerating the difference in horsepower between the Allante and the 560SL did start the so called "mess".

Yep, and I explained to you what happened. Why are you still bringing this up? Get over it, the differences didn't make any difference anyway. Did the correct numbers give the Cadillac an advantage or was it still under the bus in hp? I could see if I gave the SL the higher number and the Allante had the higher hp rating, but it didn't. IT DID NOTHING FOR THE ALLANTE'S STANDING. It was still a 60K weakling.

My point about the 600 was that it was a flop, as you claimed the Allante was.

You never had a point about the 600, it wasn't a flop by any measure but yours. The Allante was a utter failure by even Cadillac's own admission. Huge difference there. One company celebrates their prior efforts (Mercedes) and the other would rather you forget them (Cadillac). If that doesn't tell you which one was the junker then nothing will.

Did the Allante accomplish for Cadillac what was expected?

No. Why is that so hard to grasp? The car flopped on the road compared to the SL and in the market place. It didn't garner any respect for Cadillac only shame.

Your remaining 2 paragraphs are just excuse making on a grand scale. I've never seen anyone go on and on about nothing! A unwinnable, unstainable position. The SL beats Cadillac's effort then as it does today. End of story.

Making Cadillac a "world" standard I think is very difficult to do. I understand that many people felt that it was this way in its prime many years (or decades) ago, but times have changed considerably. First off, there is actual competition internationally now and people are much more aware of what a car includes and incorporates into their design. Also, companies like BMW, Lexus, Mercedes Benz, Audi, Acura, Infiniti, and Porsche, etc are all vying for the title or carving out their own high-end "standard" for the world. Unless Cadillac can do something radical that these other companies aren't doing; and if they can do it for a fiercly competitive price, I don't see how they will ever become a "world" standard again. Heck, it would be great if they could even make the claim of being the North American standard first!

SAABs cannot be RWD ok.

I don't know why people can't understand this but the entire history of the brand has been quirky, but pratical cars with a bit of luxury and a bit of sport that are FWD.

I am not even sold on having AWD SAABs.

You keep bring this back up. I do not see the Allante as a sales failure. I will have to go back the the 1987 Motor Trend article on the Allante, where they interviewed Cadillac's head engineer, to see exactly what he said. I hope that will settle the issue.
