Erick, this is silly, but it turned out to be the alternator. Apparently, the alternator was not generating any juice, so that battery was low. When it because so low, the AC shut off. Somehow, the next day, all was back to normal, until 3 days later when I got stranded on the road. I took it to a local shop, and they replace the alternator. No more problems after that.
I guess, these new cars electrical systems are so different. It used to be on older cars, that if the battery was bad or low on juice, then all systems would go off at the same time.
The way the symptons on this van appeared threw me off and I thought for sure that it was the AC and I was looking at a $1000 repair.
Anyhow, good luck to you.

I'm taking mine in for the exact same problem. Did you find a solution yet?

it turned out it was the alternator not working, thus battery was low on power, and the AC unit shut off. I replaced the alternator, now I'm back in business.

#58 of 100 AC not working AGAIN on Odyssey 2002
Nov 02, 2009 (6:28 pm)
I had the AC issue come back to haunt me. Initially I thought I had fixed it by replacing the transistor assembly (located on the interior of the van), as it was suggested in several forums and on Youtube. That seemed to have fixed it for 2 months. The problem is now back.
As in the initial problem, symptoms are that the AC will blow cold air at times only. Fan works well.
Any ideas where else to look? I know it's not a freon leak, as AC will blow cold air when it wants to.

My 2004 Odyssey has the same problem. I replaced the heater control assembly but it didn't fix the problem. Did you solve it and if so, how? Thx
#60 of 100 my heater sucks

well actually it blows - but bearly. I have 2007 odyssey and the heater is extremely weak - in fact the 'feet' setting there is no air circulation. Is this common fixable ...? What up?
#61 of 100 AC/Heating puzzle

Have a 2000 Honda. On New Year's Eve, there were no lights on the dash for the heating area, and no heat or defogging. Then the heat came on. Then there was a noise and we smell something that smelled as if something was burning.
Now there's a low metallic whirr when the car starts, that gets very low as it's on. The dash lights and heater work.
Firestone wanted to replace our A/C compressor for $1K. Said the clutch and pulley assembly on the front of the compressor "went bad", and that's why there was a grinding sound. Said the smell was the freon escaping.
Said it would be throwing off metal pieces that might stop the power steering.
They want to do the repair with a remanufactured part.

#63 of 100 A/C not blowing cold
May 25, 2010 (10:55 pm)
My 2000 Odyssey is not blowing cold air. When I turn the a/c on it is blowing, but not getting cold. It has been checked for freon and I have been told that there is no leak. I recently took it to Pep Boys and was told it was the compressor along with hoses, etc, etc. When I asked the guy about the fan not moving he didn't even know what I was talking about, so how do I know he's telling the truth. I know the fan doesn't move when I turn the air on and I don't want to pay$1000 to get this fixed.
