Who can forget the insanity that was the Cannonball Run. What was Car & Driver thinking in letting Brock Yates go (again!!) I'd like to enter a stealth radar reflecting Mercedes AMG prepared C55 driven by exotic dancers in bikini's!!!! COME ON !!! Bring back the Cannonball Run and SOMEBODY Get Brock Yates off his tokkus and back at his typewriter |

I remember (From car & Driver)the guys from Jersey had the highest average speed and would have won the race if they hadn't threatened some guy in NM at a service station for not taking their credit card. He called the police, which detained them. Great article, great race. Unfortunately I lost the C&D mag. |

| Every year, Brock Yates would roll out and article in Car and Driver about greatness of the Cannonball. The guy needs to stop living in the past. Do we have to hear about this think every year? | |

speaks to the rebel in all of us. We know it is impractical, a bit dangerous, and maybe even illegal but it is interesting. The idea of Starting at one coast and racing till you run out of room on the other coast has to be the ultimate idea of a Race. It is the Paris to Dakar and Baja 1000 all rolled into one. The only problem is we can't get them to close down a highway for them to race on. The Cannonball should be run every year. It should be a man law.

Replying to: boaz47 (Nov 17, 2006 10:30 am) See now, you got me thinking abgain about the new Deathrace 3000 movie that is being made. They should do another Cannonball Run, but this time let them use REAL CANNON's. Odie Odie's Carspace P.S. - I only jest, the Cannonball would be great to have again. |

What a terrific thing it would be to bring back the Cannonball race. This Country, along with some self serving politicians, needs a good shaking up & kick in the shorts. What a better way to do it. Come on Guys it's been 35 years since this country had a national event based on good clean fun & a little mischief to pump up our pulse. Admittedly there is a major safety concern however I would hope we as Americans are intelligent enough to police our abilities as drivers and act accordingly. Let's do one just like the first race without a bunch of regulations hindering or predetermining the out come. I for one would love to climb in my 440 Dodge Challenger for a coast to coast no holds bared winner take all event. American auto manufactures want to brag about product superiority, what a better way to demonstrate it. If someone decides to put it together please let me know so I can put it in the wind along with the rest of them. I can only hope.

Generally they are invite only and are run similar to the original one on public roads with parties etc. One Lap is similar but you race at tracks rather than the public roads. I was invited to one of the underground ones a few years ago, biggest problem was the $10,000 entry fee! -mike |
