You say that he MDX stereo is the best you have heard. What about the "Studio on Wheels" system in the new Infinti G35? With its 10 subs up front having a front soundstage has to be at least a little better than having the bass all coming from the rear. And what about systems that have the surround speakers in the seats?

"Outgunning all other six-cylinder-powered rivals including the BMW X5, Lexus RX 350 and Porsche Cayenne"

The MDX does 0-60 in 8.1 seconds. The Infiniti FX35 will do 0-60 in 7.3 seconds.

Well, MT reported 7.5s (someone posted above) for MDX, but there's more to "outgunning" than a straightline 0-60 run.

That said, FX35 is about as powerful and a lot lighter/smaller so it should be quicker at least in a straightline. I would be surprised if it isn't.

The human ear is not capable of picking up the direction of low frequency vibrations. As long as it's loud enough to be heard, the placement matters very little. That's why subs are often stashed in the darndest places.

Yeah, I'm a little skeptical of the term "outgunning" in this application. That's a blanket statement which doesn't quite jive.

But, to be fair, there are different ways of measuring performance. Based on the reports coming back from Beaver Run, the MDX outran the Porsche and BMW on the straight sections of track. But that's not the same as a 0-60 acceleration run. And there's been no mention of the FX35 even being there.

Furthermore, because of it's relatively small interior, some magazines are pitting the FX35 against the likes of the X3 and RDX.

Even so, this Pansonic system is better. There's plenty of bass up front and the sound stage is nearly perfect. Bass is plentiful, deep and punchy. Only the Lexus/Mark Levinson system and the Audi/B&O are in the same ballpark, no, same city as this audio system.

I actually happened to own a couple of DVD-Audio discs. They sound amazing on this system, the system really makes the most of them. Unfortunately, there seem to be very few DVD-Audio discs available and I am not overly optimistic at this time about the future of DVD-Audio.

Yep. But I have been spoiled by DVD-A/DTS system in my TL. That said, even CD plays brilliantly. For DVD-A/DTS discs, dtsonline.com is a decent place to look. I got a few from there.

On Road Performance is What Counts by fishsage

Picked up a MDX sport/entertainment package at the end of November. I could not be more happy with the car in general and I have no issue with the overall performance. I have read alot about people not feeling the new vehicle accelerates off the line as fast as they would have liked and this may be true for some. I agree that a six or seven speed gear box would allow more aggressive launches and if they install one in a future model that would be nice as long as gas mileage is not severely compromised. However, I think this whole train of thought misses the very essence of what this SUV is all about, "on road performance". I don't know about anyone else, but I did not purchase such a refined vehicle to do boulevard racing. If that was the case I could have gotten a Ford Mustang, etc. When you are on the highway going around a sweeping turn at 65 miles an hour and punch it to pass a truck the MDX is in its element. Space out just a second and before you know it your doing a 100 mph thinking you are only doing 80. The power and handling are that responsive and smooth. If you are like me and drive 20,000 miles a year plus, with large portions on highways, then this is way more important than whether you make it from 0-60 in 7.5 seconds rather than 7 seconds. Which by the way are the same numbers posted for the Q7 with a V-8. To each their own, but for me passing speed and handling are way more important than 0-60 performance in this type of vehicle.

Fish,

Glad you like your new MDX. But for some of us, the sluggish feel of the acceleration from stop was a deal breaker. The numbers says differently because the 0-60 is equivalent to the competitors. But it just "feels" slow off the start and for me it is by far the most important part of driving a vehicle. I am not talking about drag racing but it has to pick up and go when you want it to. The MDX does not have that feeling. All other comparable SUVs in the market has the passing acceleration like the MDX. So what does the MDX has that sets it apart from the rest except for value.
