I have a 92 Rodeo 3.1L that had the same problem. Are you sitting down? It's probably the cam and lifters. I changed everything from the oxygen sensor, distributor, EGR valve etc. before I discovered this. Apparently they didn't harden the cams properly and they wear out taking the lifters down with them. Now finding one is the next trick. I discovered the Lumina van has the EXACT same engine. Order the parts for this and they're half the price.

My 92 ran so bad and after a while would barely start. I discovered that it was tied to the throttle body fuel injection. Drove me nuts, but found that if I pulled the ecm fuse, then started the engine, shut it down, put the fuse back, then did a reset sequence (depress accelerator slightly, start engine, run for three seconds, shut off for ten seconds, then restart) it went back to normal and has run fine for months.

I used the 92 Lumina Van parts. sounds like you have a different problem if it won't crank at all. Maybe starter or battery? Can you turn the engine by hand? Could be seized if you can't in which case its a full engine swap!!

I recently bought a 1992 Rodeo. It ran fine the first 2 days of ownership. Now it takes awhile to start. It has a new battery and was tuned up by the previous owner approx 6-8 months ago. Once it starts, it runs fine. As of today, now it won't start at all. It cranks fast just like its supposed to, it just wont start. Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!
