#1 of 10 SL-550 tires by rcf8000

I'm planning on buying my wife an SL-550, but I don't like the fact that they come with "performance" tires. (It's not a sports car in my mind.) Is there anyone out there who has replaced the OEM tires with "all-season" tires?

It's a sports car. My wife has a 92 500SL. The stock z-rated Pirelli's have given way to Continental all-season touring tires. Car handles quite nicely, even on sharp turns and at anything less than 100mph

#3 of 10 Tire search for 1999 SL500 by irvney

I am running Yokohama AVS DB S2 on my Mercedes LS500. I have 21,000 miles on the tires and need to replace them. The front tires are worn out. The car jerks into the worn ruts on the interstate and creates a dangerous driving situation.

The original set of tires also created the car to move eradically into the freeway "tracks" and when the Yokohamas were new, they didn't jerk to the worn part of the freeway as they do now. We know that the problem is the tires and not the car.

What tires do other SL owners recommend?

Thanks!

I'd go to TireRack.com, see what the Best Sellers are for your particular model and read some of the reviews. Then choose the one that's best for you.

#5 of 10 SL500 Fog Lamp by seriesworld

I have a 1999 SL500 with a broken fog lamp lenz, Do I have to replace the entire light or can I replace just the bulb and lenz? How do you remove the bumper?

On the SLKs it's a sealed unit so you have to replace the entire light. I would guess that the SLs are the same way.

#8 of 10 SL 550 2009 by tsiamas

Have an SL550 2009, love the car but have had numerous problems with tires and rims. Have less then 10K miles and have had to change the front tires because of "bulging" , a cracked rim and also a bent rim. Have seen some complaints on NTSB board but no one at MB or my dealer acknowledges that it may be a part problem.

Anyone else experiencing similar problem???

I am having the same issue with my 2009 SL 550. I have about 30,000 miles and have replaced 4 tires so far and at currently my car is parked at the dealership. I was just told that I have 3 cracked rims (no dents or chips on the rims) and two tires need to be replaced. All this is going to cost me over $5,000 and I am not about to do that. We need to do something about this. You can contact me via email ashishwahi08gmail.com.
