I wanted a convertible as our third car. She didn't want a third car at all, but if we had to have one, it had to fit the kids. So....our last 3rd car was a 2002 Lexus SC430. That car was stunning to look at, and when you sat in in, you felt like you were in a spa. The leather was perfect, the doors and trim were perfect and the radio was great. But, the problems with my 02 sc430 were worth mentioning too. 1) It is expensive. Two years depreciation on the Lexus was more than the Pontiac 2) My wife hated driving the Lexus because people would literally knock on the window when she was driving, and talk to her about the car. 3) The car had these godawful run-flat tires which made the driving dull, jarring and un-fun. The guy who bought it from me put on regular rubber and likes it a lot better. 4) finally, the back seat of the Lexus is a joke...barely a parcel shelf. Forget any human occupancy, including babies. I tell you about the Lexus as a contrast to the Pontiac G6 convertible. On the negative side, the Pontiac delivers none of the admiration from the drive thru girl or supermarket cart guy that the Lexus brought. Pontiac couldn't have made an fuglier dashboard it it tried. The area above the glovebox looks like the inside of your eyelids. (Go ahead and check) Finally, as a negative, the trunk is unusable when the roof is down. I left the positives for last because I really do like this car, and I can't believe you are still reading my opinion like it means something. The engine is zippy. If I used 10% of the Lexus power to get around, I am using 20% of the Pontiac's. There is plenty of scoot. The back seat is actually comfortable for adults. I am a big fat guy, and there is more room in the front of this Pontiac G6 than in my '07 Escalade ESV. Best of all, it is a convertible! Roof up it is a nice little coupe, much better than the rentacar styling would indicate. But how it works as a coupe isn't important...The roof came down at the dealer, and I live in Arizona where it never rains, so it will rarely be a coupe. Quality? I don't know... It is new so I have had nothing to complain about. I guess the Pontiac Marketing guys will call that good initial quality. I gotta say that for under $30k out the door with all the rebates and minimal dealer grinding, I got a good value in the G6. If I used it as a 3rd car for a few years and sell it for half of what I paid, I will be happy. I alternatively considered the Sky Redline, but the absence of a backseat and the cramped interior made me pass. I think I will make a few dollars selling my "delivery position" on the Redline. I am sure the Redline is a sportier car, but I am not in NASCAR, and frankly the G6 delivers more performance than I can use on a public road without getting a ticket anyway. It is about cruiser comfort and the G6 delivered. Feel free to email me if you have any questions about the G6, my Escalade or other cars I own or have owned. Seen one the other day and have to say with the top down the G6 is a pretty sharp looking ride. I don't care for the interior. GM should have copied the Impala on the inside but they nailed it on the outside. Pretty good lines without over doing it.

I took delivery of my G6 in June 2007 and I absolutely love it. It is my 4th Pontiac convertible in 20 years and by far my favorite. I don’t get all the negative things that are being said in this forum. It is a $30,000 car – if you want lots of high performance then quit your belly aching and go buy a BMW or Lexus. I think it has plenty of sweet bells and whistles, from the XM radio to the technical command/information center. Yes, the back seat is small and the trunk is unusable when the top is down, but if the car was made bigger, to give it a bigger back seat, it would loose its sporty feel. And frankly I am happy to give up my trunk space in exchange for not struggling – and destroying nails – putting on the top boot! I have purchased 17 brand new GM vehicles in my 30 years of adulthood, and they have varied from Pontiac Sunbirds to GMC 3500 crew cab diesel trucks and although there is a big difference in the kind of vehicles I have purchased, I still could easily rank them as to my satisfaction. The bottom line is that it needs to make me feel good when I get behind the wheel. To me – as a huge GM fan – I think they hit the mark with the G6 convertible. Every time I look out my window and see my car, or walk up to it in a parking lot, my heart does a flip flop. I love the way it looks, I love the way it handles, I love the way it performs. I love the way people oh and ah when they see the top go up or down, and I love the way that it feels when I have the radio cranked up and am cruising along.

This car is just fun! I own two Corvettes so I kind of have a feel for what a fun car is. My wife and I just love this car! We traded a 2005 F150 super crew for it and have not been sorry. We bought it in July, have about 3000 miles on it now. The top goes up and down at least twice a day! Power is adequate, handling is very good ... top up or down. It is amazing how quiet it is at 80 MPH with the top down and window s up. You can easily carry on a normal conversation. The monsoon radio is very good! We are getting about 27 to 28 MPG highway and over 20 in town. Do not hesitate to go look at one of these! It truly is the best of both worlds!

Ha ha. I knew there was no way GM engineered the roof, and sure enough, it's bought wholesale from a German company. So, I guess it actually works, but I knew that GM could have designed it itself, which is a sad testament to GM of today. The previous poster who is congratulating Pontiac on its engineering prowess in this car made me laugh. Which parts of this car don't originate in Europe?
