Just seems such a simple thing. They'll put a lock on the spare tire, but not the t.gate. Guess I overlooked the Dodge as I've never considered buying a Dodge.

My 2007 Chevy Silverado has 7150 miles. Today, the Reduced Engine Power light came on when starting it. The engine was rough so I turned it off, waited a few minutes, then it started correctly. The engine emblem on dash stayed lit and on constantly...not blinking. I love my truck! I have a seven year warranty. Does anyone have any idea what may be going on? Thank you in advance! The last incident almost put me over an embankment because I lost steering and brake power. Are you still having problems with yours? If so, stop driving it because it is dangerous. Do you have On Star? We had On Star run engine diagnostics each time and three out of four times it showed a problem. I love the Silverado truck too but I'm not willing to drive something that isn't safe. An Engineer came out from Head Office and said to replace our truck with a new one and then HO over turned that decision. I've been happy with our dealership but GMAC could take lessions from them. Disappointing considering we had a GM before buying this one and also have a 2007 HHR. We were/are happy with them but when I needed GM in times of trouble, they let me down. If anyone else has experienced a Reduced Power problem, I'd love to hear about it. Mich British Columbia, Canada

Hi Mich: My problem was solved when I removed my gas cap, put it back on correctly, and tightened it. It was not sealed properly when I put gas in and drove for awhile. The reduced engine power message went away. Fortunately, it has not happened again. I hope this will help your problem as well. Let it sit for 3 minutes and it starts again the just does this over and over. It has been at the dealer for a week and they cannot solve this. The truck has 600 miles on it.

Yes, the problem is resolved. The first mechanic I talked to said he thought rats may have gnawed away at some wiring! Really. :o) You know how it is better to crash with a full tank of gas versus a partially full tank? Reason being that the fumes cause the explosion with a partially full tank. It's a sort of compression. When my gas cap was not sealing properly, this caused a leak of sorts (fumes released) in the gas tank. My engine was not getting the gasoline it needed to run properly. I had the same experience you did....starts...then stalls. After taking off the gas cap, then putting it on properly, I let the truck sit overnight. In the morning, it started with no problem, and has never happened again. I make it a point to screw the cap on right, each time I get gas. Replying to: jacktheblack1 (Sep 18, 2007 5:16 pm) Not yet, has been in the shop since July 24th--paying for a truck I don't have. You might try what Trish suggests. I'm a little leery to drive it though since I nearly went off an embankment with it when the brakes and the steering failed. An engineer from HO has been out, can't find the problem but knows there is one because Onstar found it 3 times. Onstar identified it as a default with the throttle box so that was replaced. Happened again and GM replaced the computer, the next time it happened they replaced the harness and now have done that again. It has been mysteriously quiet on the GM side. We were told we'd get a replacement truck. A couple of days later they had changed their story based on "new information". What are they telling you?
