The MKX is only a few changes away from being a truly attractive proposition, however. A new set of brakes, a bit more powerful engine and an interior similar to the one that will appear in the MKS will make a world of difference.

Does this car REALLY need more power? It may not be class leading but it's certainly competitive. IMO, adding more power when it's not really needed is exactly the kind of make-it-look-good-on-paper "menu" padding that the article complains about.

This car needs a 10% boost in fuel economy far more than it needs an extra 10% in horsepower.

I believe that's what they're advertising, I just think there's a catch somewhere.

I don't know where in the world peope are getting the idea that the RX350 requires premium fuel!! I've been driving this car for almost two years and with the exception of maybe three times at the beginning of my purchase, I've been using regular unleaded with no problems and with the approval of the Lexus Service technician!!
My thoughts on the MKX: I like the exterior a lot and even liked the interior at first glance, except that I did not like the retro-styled
gauges and there's an awful lot of that "brushed aluminum" on the
center console. In the RX there's only aluminum at the upper quadrant of the center console and the bottom part is wood grain.
I believe the more aluminum that you have, the more chances of little scratches showing up.
I have to agree with drjames. The Lexus just does everything right; well placed controls, not to mention the outstanding treatment at the dealership!

The rap on the RX350 is in the driving dynamics (handling, steering, body roll, etc.). Never drove one so I can't comment on that.

Doesn't Lexus "recommend" premium fuel and that's what the advertised hp and fuel economy figures are based on?

I can tell you one area where many customers tell me that the MKX spanks the RX350. Navigation system ease of use. And the Sync system just makes that argument even stronger.

Mark.
