Hoping you all can help. I have an 06 with only 64,000 miles on it. In the past two weeks several things have started happening to it. In between second and third gear it starts to make a whinning noise, as well as when I stop it feels like someone is hitting me in the rear end. Took it to a shop (non dealer) and they could find nothing wrong with it, no codes etc. have not taken it to the dealer yet as we can not afford to many more repairs. Someone has mentioned the rear differentaial was locking up and possibly the transerfer case as well as the clutch plate? Does anyone know what the drive tran warrenty is on these? this car has been very well taking care of and now isn't worth what we owe on it! Feels like we stuck. Anyone have any luck getting gm to fix the issues?

I have had this car 3 years and loved it, up until about 2 months ago. I bought it used in 2009 at 59k and now have 141k on it and don't want to sell, but here is what is going on.
Until recently, it worked like a dream but last month the All wheel drive failed and the transmission guy charged me $1700 and now the rear differential failed for another $900. Can't keep dumping money into this so I guess I must sell. Are GM cars no longer made to last? I really wanted to get this to 200k at least. If a GM employee is listening, please help as I have driven GM cars since my first one in 1993 and am about to give up!

just last week we had our rear air bags replaced after finding leaks. Now, they are not filling and releasing as needed and stuck very low. the pump is functionind (as checked by the accessory inflator). does anyone know if there is a sensor or something that needs to be recalibrated after installing new bags?
thank you

Have you been working with your dealership for these repairs, buickrainier1, or with an independent shop?

I bought My Ranier new in 2004. It has had nothing but problems since it hit about 50,000 miles. My heated seat over heated and almost started on fire, I have had to replace at least 4 wheel bearings, radiator problems, air shocks went bad, driver door lock switch had to be replaced because I couldn't close it (latch problem) and now my AWD is not working. I have sunk literally thousands of dollars into this piece of crap and things just keep going wrong. There is a reason GM is in financial trouble. In spring I will be looking at new Fords. We have always been a Buick family but I have had enough. The people at GM pretend they care, but they don't. What's even worse is the problems I have had with this thing is that most of the problems are just plain dangerous.
I am on vacation this week and today I have to take my truck to a dealer I have never been to in the area I am vacationing in so I don't keep getting stuck in the snow! Can't wait to see what they are going to hit me for this. Nope, Never again and I tell everyone I know, and plenty of people I don't know NEVER buy GM. My mom who has always had Chevy's even switched to Ford. GM... You are doing a wonderful job of putting yourselves out of business.
#250 of 254 Rainier Oil pan

Trying to replace an oil pump on a 2006 2-wheel drive Rainier with a 5.3l engine and cannot get the oil pan off. Removed one cross member towards the rear of the pan and all bolts. Pan lowered a few inches easily but now sits on a cross member and the steering gear cross member. Pan will not move forward enough to come out. Repair manuals do not say to remove the steering gear cross member or the second cross member (second steel cross member appears to be welded in place). Anybody know if I need to disconnect the engine mounting bolts and raise the engine to get this pan out? Can I work it out with removal of only the steering gear?

I'm back again. I check periodically in hopes someone has resolved one of my '04 Rainier's many problems. No such luck. Our mechanic is a good guy and very honest. He's overwhelmed with business right now (a good thing, but...) but always does right by us. Our Rainier's problems have been literally prioritized, there's so many. We had an issue in early December with the other front axle due to the differential. Once that was fixed (very very costly but less than the dealer) we decided to address the occasionally working cluster panel. We had saved up to replace it but the axle/differential repair had bumped itself up to #1. Apparently when you get a refurbished one some of the dealers balk at calibrating the mileage. Now that it has been replaced we're getting error messages and have to diagnose those. This is ridiculous and embarrassing. I've seen all of these GM Representatives on here ceremoniously telling owners they will help to resolve the issue. BS. Once they hear you're over the 100K mark they don't care. Who knows, it sounds as if they don't prior to the 100K mark either! But come on Buick, stand behind your product. Do the right thing and help us - YOU are the common denominator. We've already invested a great deal of money and time. We can't dump the vehicles in the market because they don't stay running healthy long enough to do so. I love mine when it's running, but can't afford to keep doing this.

MOM, the instrument cluster can be removed with just a phillips screwdriver and a7 or 8 mm socket in less than 20 minutes. The company that GM uses to rebuild them is United Radio in Syracuse NY. It is $175 to have it rebuilt, and mine took 5 days from removal to reinstallation.
That is less than HALF what it would cost even to have an independant shop do it.
Hope this helps.

It sounds like I am having the same issue. Did you ever find out what was wrong?
