| I just passed 5K and averaged 26.8 mpg, 80% hwy driving in mostly AWD with the AT. It was great in the snow and I used the lock mode a few times also. Now that spring is here I have switched to FWD and am averaging 29.6 so far. As far as an AWD vehicle goes...I think that's great mileage! Since I am 6'5" and 210 pounds, I can't fit in most SUVs. I wish the SX4 had a bit more power for the hills but then the gas mileage would suffer. It's a trade off but overall I'm very happy. | |

Bought the SX-4 last December and have about 3000 miles on it. Am getting about 25 mpg average city/hwy with the auto transmission, close to 30 on the highway, hardly any 4WD use even though we live in the snowbelt. The mileage has gradually been climbing. Maybe that is because the car is breaking in, maybe it is because the console display constantly reminds me to drive more efficiently. In either case this is pretty good mpg for a 4WD vehicle. I have a Chevy S10 ext cab 4WD stick shift PU and it gets about 16/21. I have no serious complaints about this car.

I am not really happy with the mileage. In the city 23.3, on the highway at speeds 65-75 the mileage is 26.4. And I drive very smoothly, use neutral when going down the slope. I think this is pretty much for 2.0 liter, 4 cyl car.

At 9k I am averaging 30 mpg with 90% hwy at 70 mph in FWD mode. In AWD I did get less, about 26 mpg but it was winter then. I think 30 mpg is the best I can expect.

I'm new to this forum and to the SX4. I've been looking for a replacement for my 2005 Scion XB and the SX4 looks to be a candidate. I commute about 100 miles daily from West Va. to the DC area. Do any SX4 owners commute a like distance, and what kind of mpg do you get? How far can you cruise on 1 tank of gas? Will the SX4 stand up to the rigors of daily long commutes? Will the Suzuki 5 speed or the auto give me better mpg? Right now my XB delivers 32-34 mpg with the auto at speeds up to 70 mph and up to 340 miles per tank with 85% highway travel. She's been a great car with zero issues but the odometer just turned 70k and it's time to start my search for her successor. The only real drawback that I see for me is the small gas tank. Why Suzuki only put in an 11 gal. tank is puzzling, unless they designed it for predominantly urban use. Thanks to all, Rob |
