Hello, I am looking to buy a 2000-2005 Crown Vic RCMP car. I have heard that they have a strickt maintenance schedule which includes engine and transmission changes. Is there a preffered KM range where one should have a new engine and/or transmission, or is it basically the lower the KM the better? Are these good reliable cars and is there anything specific that I should looking for on these cars? I have owned a 1993 Caprice RCMP car, and that thing was incredible. I sold it around 400,000 KMS for something a little cheaper on gas and even at those KMS it still ran great. I am hoping that these police cars are as durable and reliable. Thanks for any information and help.

Every police car has been treated differently & run in a wide variety of ways. When you choose a low KM car, you might be getting one with an engine with lots of hours on it due to long periods of idling. To choose the best, drive them all, but if you do purchase one, change all the fluids including the pinion housing & replace with Synthetics. If you are good at the Casinos, try your luck in Regina.

I would like the default startup condition to be overdrive off and then change that by pressing the OD button. I would always like the startup to be overdrive off just the opposite of the factory setting. Is there a way to do that?

When the tranny shifts from 1st to 2nd, it jumps then goes into gear. Do I need a new trans shift sensor or etc solenoid or tcc lock up solenoid?

I hae a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis LS w 168,000 miles. Car usually runs great, avg. 20mpg. Bought car about year and a half ago. Has had occasional light shudder when lightly applying gas between 35/40 mph. Other day did shudder every time a tried to keep steady speed of 55 and higher w light acceleration . Very scary , no shudder with heavy acceleration. Sucks gas when this happens,

Change the transmission fluid & replace with Mercon V. Don't use the forcefull system, but drop the pan and replace the filter. The shudder will not be. It worked for me.
