2006 GX sticker problems by airmar

I have the new 06 GX. To add to my already problems with getting by Phill installed, now I am going around and round with the DMV.

There seems to be some problem with the way Honda makes the VIN for the O6. It first started with my insurance. They told me that the VIN was not valid. So I read if directly from the car windshield to be sure and they still said in their computer it comes up as not valid. I faxed my registration to them as proof just so they would write the insurance. Now, twice I have had my HOV sticker application returned from the DMV. First time the note said it was not a "hybrid" and didn't qualify. I then copied the list from the ARB site and sent it back. They returned it again and told me that according to their system it the MOP motive of power is gas not CNG. They said I have to go to a local DMV and have them sign a proof that it is CNG the return the form by mail. I don't know what the change in the VIN is but it sure is causing problems.

airmar, sorry to hear about your problems with the VIN. I had a problem with a VIN years ago on a regular gasoline vehicle, and it was a bit of a hassle to get it fixed. Once the VIN is somehow messed up in the DMV computer, the only way to fix it is to have it inspected at your local DMV. I think that the Automobile Club of Southern California (AAA) can also take care of this as one of the DMV services that they provide for their members.

I don't know all of the details of the VIN, but all of the 2006 GX vehicles that I have seen have six numbers (no letters) at the end. Since there were so few made in 2006, it is very common to have the last six digits be something like 000317, which would be the 317th unit made in 2006.

Apparently, I had no VIN problem. It took me about three weeks to get the stickers from the time I mailed the application and fee until I received them.

I hope that this was at least somewhat helpful. Good luck!

Sorry to hear you are having a problem. I can't remember about my 05' GX , but for the 06' I had a call from my insurance agent and he got it straightened out. With the 05' I had issues with the DMV that may have been because I checked the wrong box, so I sent a copy of the bill of sale and some information off the internet and a new application with the correct box checked. With the 06' I sent in the bill of sale and the window sticker and some information about the car with the application form. I received the stickers in about 30 days. The lic plates arrived last Friday (more than 90 days after purchase). The auto club was not able to help me with the sticker issue in 05'. Good Luck.
