I love this car! I read the reviews before I bought it and I also read the reviews and test drove some of the competition. The outlander has everything I was looking for: a v6 w/more than 200 hp, a navigation system, roomy interior, and heated leather seats. The bonus is the 3rd row emergency seat. It came with the luxury package and for my family, its more useful than the extra storage space offered in the other trims. I also really love the 650 watt stereo as do my young adult children. The sub really bumps and the 30 gig hard drive will be great to use instead of my ipod. We've Never had a sunroof before and my husband fell in love with it. He hates to run the ac; so the sunroof is a great compromise. The bluetooth is great. Now we don't have to worry about getting tickets and are less likely to have car accidents.
I bought the Outlander after driving Chevy Astro vans for the last 21 years. I love all of the new technology, and its a real step up from what I am accoustomed to having in my van. This car is a lot of fun. In fact,I rarely get to drive it. Whenever I want to go out, my daughters (21 & 24) are fighting over who gets to drive me around. (Ask me how I know the back seat is comfortable )I think I've only been able to put 10 miles on it so far. The hard plastic reviewers are complaining about does not bother me one bit. Less to worry about getting ripped or torn. The interior is nice and both front and 2nd row seats are very comfortable. We've had both daughter's 6' boyfriends in the back seat and they have plenty of leg room because the seats can be adjusted.
I really think that with the Outlander you get a lot of car for your money. Those people who want more luxury can pay the luxury price for padded doors, etc. However, this car has more than enough amenities for me and my family.
From some of the reviews in Motor Trend and Consumer Guide, I agree the reviewers are being very biased. If they were conducting blind brand tests like the coke vs/ pepsi, I bet the reviews would be different. The Outlander outsells both RAV4 and CRV in Japan.
As for the competition, I didn't like the seats in the RAV4 because the headrests hit in the back unless they were raised. I also did not want to put in an after market navi and I did not like the side opening tailgate or spare tire on the back. It also cost more and you get less and the seats were not as comfortable. You read some of the reviewer's comments re: cheap interior and yet it still scores higher than the Outlander (because its a Toyota). The grill on the CRV is ugly and it only has a 4 cyl, 166 hp engine. Not enough power.
The Grand Vitara is nice but also at 185 hp v6 - not enough power and no nav. /great turn radius. In Consumer Guide they ranked it a value pick and scored it a 9; yet I think the 06 model scored less than 5. Interesting since the 07 is the same car as the 06.
The Mazda CX7 felt claustrophobic, costs more, and uses premium gas. Rear window visibility was also poor.
  The outlander drives so much smoother than my 95 van and it has more hp (astro 190 hp.) As you can see from the age of my van (which I still have), I keep my cars forever. So, resale value is not an important issue for me. Although this is my 1st Mitsubishi, I have friends who have driven them for years (Galant/Monteros)and they have never had any problems. From other consumer reviews, most people seem very happy with mitsu vehicles from a reliability standpoint.
   We all are looking for different things and what is important to me might not matter to someone else. For example, I told a coworker that I was somewhat disappointed that the Outlander remote does not make a beep when you lock the car like my dughter's altima does. This is nice when we are inside the house and want to make sure the car is locked but are too lazy to go outside and check. My co worker told me she hates the beep. So, read the reviews but do go out and test drive the Outlander and judge this car based on your needs and wants. Best of luck & happy shopping.

Well it is a start...would have liked to see an option for the 4-cyl sold elsewhere. Looks like we will just get what is being sold stateside...this probably means no red but aqua
 
I would also rather have the option of xls with no third row.
 
Toronto Auto Show will probably be the first chance to see it without crosing the border.

It's a slow start... I do not see any ads on TV or else where about Mitsubishi. Only my local paper mentions Mitsubishi, but they use extra fine font so nobody can notice their ad... Anyway, i am not interested in 4cyl, it's weak for this CUV. I test drove 2006 model 3-4 times and can tell you that engine is noisy during acceleration (not as bad as RAV4 4cyl though). I am on the same page with you on third row - i do not need no minivan . The Red color would be nice to have, but you would probably have to pay extra $800 dollars for it. I just what to see damn car before making up my mind (2006 vs 2007). The interest rate could be 7.25% on 2007 one, which will make it very expensive buy.

Today I made another attempt to purchase an Outlander 2006 Limited. Sales manager said that with my offer he will make only $400.00. He wanted to make at least $864.00. I walked away, telling him that he can call me if he changes his mind. Maybe i am doing something wrong? Everybody says we should aim for Invoice price, but why i am getting such resistance on 2006 model that a. will be discontinued, B, This is almost end of the year. In few weeks technically this car will be 1 year old. I would appreciate your thoughts on this matter.

Lucky you! $200 under invoice! We got three dealerships in my area. They want to make anywhere from $864 to $1700 dollars. One of them actually told me that it is normal to make 1700 on a car like this one (Limited addition 2006 Outlander)! Besides, how do I know what is Invoice price for that model? You are talking about Invoice, not MSRP right? Did you get LS 2WD or 4wd, did it come with Security package? People of ONTARIO... what is Invoice Price for Outlander 2006 Limited? And how can you get it from the dealer for invoice price?! Why would they do that?!
 
Sbuhler, do you like your car so far? Did you consider SE or Limited?
