#2 of 3 safety question

Hello,
I'm not sure if this question fits in with the thread topic, but I was unsure of how to make a new thread. I'm considering the Volvo xc70 and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. I was a little confused, however, as to how these would each fare in a crash. I realize that both the volvo xc70 and the Jeep GC had good ratings. In general, would an occupant fare better in the Jeep because it is an SUV (since the XC70 is a 'car')? I'm interested in the volvo, especially their tradition of safety. However, I'm wondering if the Jeep GC's size means it may be a safer vehicle than the XC70.
Any opinions would be appreciated.

A car based SUV like the XC70 should be better at resisting rollover, and the structure of the XC70 is probably better at protecting the occupants than the Jeep, and will come standard with side impact and head curtain airbags. I believe it will get better fuel economy. Presumably the XC70 will cost quite a bit more
A big factor would be if you can get the XC70 with dynamic stability and traction control. This will greatly improve controllability in a sudden avoidance manoever. My wife has a base model 2004 V70 with only option auto tranny (and roof rack added by dealer). She wishes her base model V70 had DSTC. I am stunned that Volvo doesn't have this as standard, but it may be standard in the XC70.
