Question about availability... by eviljoe

One salesperson told me that there would definitely be '06 MS6s still around in December, and that it shouldn't be too hard to find the kind/color I'm looking for; however, another salesperson told me that by December or January, pretty much all of the '06s would be gone. Who do I believe?

Also, though I really like Black better than the Titanium Gray, I KEEP hearing that Black cars are a bad idea (especially in Florida). Is it really THAT big of a deal? Do they get that much dirtier and hotter? Couldn't I just hose it off every other day and leave the windows cracked a bit + a light tint?

Any opinions on the sportiness factor of the liquid platinum, the black mica, and the titanium gray? --so far I've only seen the platinum, which looked more like a very light, flat gray to me. Are there hidden flecks in the black and the titanium gray? I LOVE the red, but want to be a bit more low-key.

If you're looking for a particular model/color, I'd get one now, while the selection is still there. As bad as the MS6 has been selling, there's NO guarantee of the amount of '06 models left in December, let alone the color/options you want. It should be easy to get a great price on '06 models now, so waiting for December may not make much of a difference price-wise.

Coming from a person whose first car was black: If you plan on spending a lot of time to keep your car looking good, then by all means, get the black. Besides the heat build-up, black isn't a good idea, except for the first five minutes after you've hand-washed it. I'm sure they're other black owners that swear by them. That's fine, I'm just giving my opinion.

The Liquid Platnium is perfect if you don't clean your car too often, since the silver hides dirt and dust very well.
I believe the Black Mica is NOT metallic, although I'm not sure. The Titanium Gray would be my choice if you're looking to blend into traffic (especially with an MS6!)

Do cars even get dirty in Florida . To me (in WI) the dirty car problem with black is mostly a winter problem. I would not think a dark color would be a big problem in areas that do not have winter...but maybe those of us with winter weather have a different definition of "dirty" .

Black is beautiful for 2 minutes and 17 seconds after being washed with TLC. Black shows every little piece of dust and dirt. If there is dust on it, and you swipe your finger along the car, it looks like two-tone, and is noticeable. I live in Western Canada, and our climate and road conditions are not great. Sand in the winter, and driving in the spring is like driving through a sand storm. I can just hear the sand blasting against my car, and it makes me ill. Point to this regardng colour is that if your car gets pitted, the lighter undercoat sticks through the black, or any dark colour like a sore thumb. I personally, would NEVER own another black vehicle. Mine is the Liquid Platinum, and it's a very nice colour. In Canada for '06, he MS6 only came in Black, Red, and Liquid Platinum. For '07, they are dropping the Platinum in Canada, and replacing with the Titanium Grey.

If you want a standard model/color/configuration or if you are rather flexible, you might be able to do better if you wait. Keep an eye on inventory at mazda.com and make a move if the levels drop "too" low...

Personally, I do not believe much of what auto salespeople tell me: they are often clueless and they lie too much.

Imagine that... a salesperson who didn't want you to buy right away!

You can always check the inventory at the dealers in your area on Mazda's web site. That will give you an idea of what's available. But I gotta tell ya--for the difference in price you'll save by waiting until December, you'll get way more than that much fun value out of the car if you buy it now. I bought mine at the end of July, and although I got a good deal on it, and although they're even cheaper now, I was kicking myself for not getting it sooner. It's that much fun to drive!

Mine is liquid platinum. I love how the color changes in different lighting. Mostly it looks silver, but sometimes it looks lavender (not the most manly color, but I'm okay with that) and other times it looks like a cornflower blue color. It hides the dirt pretty well. I wash it when I notice the brake dust on the front wheels. Other than that, I don't notice the dirt.

Black is a notoriously bad color for dirt. As others in the board have said, every speck of dirt shows up. We had a black MPV for a while, and I'd have to wash it twice at times because the soap residue would show up on it. I haven't done any testing on interior temperature differences, but science says that a lighter car would be cooler inside.

The dealership here has one sport model left and about 6 GT's. I would suggest if your looking for a Sport, start looking for one now. Of course waiting later on a GT model might pay off if you can still find one.

I have the Tit. Grey Met. I love it. I just think silver is to plain and there are so many of that color around. I also liked Red... Car can really stand out and I think it looks sharp. Doesn't show dirt that bad. I a few red cars and I have had more tickets in a red car than any other color I've had... make that all the tickets I've had..Knock on wood!!! I have had 2 black cars and after the first I siad not again but for some reason I got another and then I realized how stupid I was for getting another one. I remember washing my black car in the shade and the sun started hitting the back and within a few minutes I sprayed water in that area and saw steam that quick.

Go with the color you like best.

When I first looked at MS6 there were plenty on the lot. When I got serious, they had 5 left. When I was ready to buy, four were left on the lot and about 15-20 in a regional search. After my purchase, three were left at my dealer's lot. The selection is continuously diminishing. Depends how particular you are about color and options. The later you wait, the less particular you need to be.

I tend to like the lighter colors. Here in Colorado the sun is very intense with few clouds; dark colors get hot quick. I do like red, but I don't want a fast car which attracts too much attention to itself.
