While I believe it is technically correct, this just does not seem right to me: When you burn one gallon of gasoline (about 6 pounds) you generate about 20 pounds of CO2 !! While you are not really generating the oxygen molecules, the carbon molecules that are released bond with oxygen already in the atmosphere. Oxygen weights a little over 3 times as much as carbon, so the total is around 20 pounds. Doesn't seem right, but that is how they measure it !! |

"Climate scientists normally are wary of associating daily weather events to longer term climate change, but new research does just that by showing that daily record high temperatures across the continental U.S. occurred twice as often as record lows over the last decade." Warning sign: Record highs are double the lows (MSNBC) My wife is back on a Prius kick so I may get real intolerable in here as I learn the CO2 poundage stats and start bragging about my green cred. (If I get bad vibes about doing the deal, I'll have to bring up unintended acceleration).

I don't take responsibility for our loony champage-socialist government any more than they take responsibility for me. Come May 2010 they will, hopefully, be history and we can - perhaps - get on with repairing the huge financial damage they've inflicted upon us. All this, of course, presupposes that the EU will allow us to, as our soul has been sold to Brussels. Sorry, totally off topic but at least I didn't get into a rant. Maybe the tablets are working. Just fuelled up the Volvo with diesel, (ULSD, the only flavour)................£1.079 per litre. Working that into $/USG would just depress you guys & gals so I won't. Suffice to say that the vast majority of the cost was Duty, (tax), and VAT, (more tax). On-topic, it's a hand up from me, 'cos I don't understand the Fuel : CO2 ratio either. |

LOL ! They don't mind associating the 5% of weather events that support their theory of global warming....It's the 95% that don't support their theory that they object to. |

The newness of the 2010 model should be about worn off. All the gotta have it at any price crowd should be satisfied. The Monday after Thanksgiving should be a good day to shop. Climate scientists normally are wary of associating daily weather events to longer term climate change They are making an exception because they have lost much of their credibility with the man on the street. Especially in the hot bed of enviro nuts in the NE that are freezing their hind ends off. They also have to have some story to justify the coldest year on record to their friends in Copenhagen. Do they go to Copenhagen for the drugs? Most of them have to be on something to come up with the theories they push. Look deep into NCAR and you will find their purpose is to push the whole Man Made Climate Change idea. They are one of many private companies almost totally subsidized by the Federal Government to make the case for Cap n Trade taxation. A total waste of our tax dollars.

European Law Means Electric Cars Could Speed Climate Change, Group Reports Well, duh, there's no free lunch. The electricity still has to be generated somewhere. (Green Car Advisor) |

Replying to: houdini1 (Nov 12, 2009 3:20 pm) Ratioing this to Carbon = 6; the CO2 = 21.9845 LB. However gasoline isn't just pure Carbon, having many little H and O atoms in it. So 20 Lb CO2 is probably right. And you'd probably end up with about 20 LB of CO2 if you burn 6 LB of natural gas, coal, or diesel. And if you use those fuels to produce electricity for your EV, the EV is responsible for producing CO2. Anytime you use energy that isn't wind, solar, geothermal, or nuclear you are converting fossil fuels into a lot of CO2. So that is why automobiles and all human transport are not even half of the formation of CO2. But don't even worry about that, for mankind only produces about 5% of the GHG that nature emits naturally. We're small potatoes even just on Earth, in the scheme of things. Seems like these things happen regularly with or without man's puny contributions. http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=global-warming-spurs-ocea |
