In some cities in the USA, that MIGHT mean that the majority are people without sufficient means to drive themselves. In Europe, many middle-class people take public transportation and even members of the upper-echelon pay grades do so. In the USA, in some cases, it's merely people who take the bus for convenience. Or because they were caught drunk driving and lost their license for a while. Or who want to ride their bikes to work and because of the distance, must take a bus part of the way. Or who are college students whose parents decided a car in a city with sufficient public transportation is a waste of money. Or a high school kid whose parents are unable to drive them to school but the bus/train/subway works fine. Or a member of a two-job/one-car family whose week it is to NOT have the car. Public transportation is not merely for the destitute and the down-trodden. People who try to make it seem that way are putting a black eye on something which does not deserve said black eye. |

Eating meat does more to produce harmful climate change and produces more CO2 than the world's entire transportation industry. 19% of CO2 produced by eating meat and only 13% for transportation. So says Al Gore and the IPCC..... so put down that cheeseburger and step away !!

Diners are being encouraged to eat more pork and chicken instead, as they produce fewer carbon emissions. A Government-sponsored study into greenhouse gases has found that producing 2.2lbs of lamb was the equivalent of releasing 37lbs of carbon dioxide. Lamb produces so much carbon dioxide because sheep belch so much methane, which is a potent greenhouse gas. Cows are also damaging, releasing the equivalent of 35lbs of CO2 per 2.2lbs. Previous studies have shown that a herd of 200 cows can produce annual emissions of methane - roughly equivalent to driving a family car more than 100,000 miles http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/environment/climatechange/5377780/Stop-eating-l- amb-and-drinking-beer-if-you-want-to-save-the-planet.html Now the Aussies don't agree with the Brits on this bit of GW lunacy. If you want to reduce global warming, get woolly - by eating lamb and installing ceiling batts, Australia's top scientists say. A 220-page handbook released by the CSIRO on Thursday says choosing different red meats can reduce carbon emissions. It is known that cattle produce more greenhouse gas than lamb or game such as kangaroo. "Replacing some beef meals with other meat options such as lamb, pork or game will help," it says. http://news.theage.com.au/breaking-news-national/fight-global-warming-by-eating-- lamb-20090910-fixf.html What do Roo Burgers taste like? |

She opened Thursday's work session reading from a letter from John Rowe, Chief Executive of Exelon, one of the country's largest utilities. Calling the bill written by Boxer and Kerry "an excellent starting point," Rowe wrote, "We urge you as chairman, as well as your colleagues, to take the steps necessary to order the bill reported by the committee so that climate legislation can be considered by the full Senate." Baucus' vote against the bill reflected the difficulties ahead in crafting a measure that would attract the 60 votes needed for passage by the Senate. As an influential moderate Democrat, Baucus laid out changes he would seek, including a weaker carbon-reduction target. Other Midwestern and Southern senators from states heavily reliant on coal will seek their own changes, which could upset liberals now supporting the bill. They know the coal generators will pay more and they will pay less using NG and Nuclear. |

Our government is, (are ?), for sure but most of us just want to live in peace and get rid of our The thing about beef and methane is just a pre-cursor to slapping an enviro-tax on cattle. Please God they don't ever realise that oxygen is dangerous. |
