And wouldn't the world just be a great place to create another autocratic body that does not have to answer to the people; not being elected. Instead of creating new agencies we should be reducing the ones we have. Instead of new taxes we need to reduce the ones we have. The world was a much better place in the 50's (would have been perfect without the Cold War). |

Why not co-opt Champion the Wonder Horse or Trigger, or Shrek or Skippy the Bush Kangaroo or Willie the Orca ? This just took me from being a calm, reasonable, pleasant individual who's just spent a nice afternoon going round our local Food & Drink Fair, (yummy), to a raving Grumpy Old Man. If this brings on my third heart attack I will not be a happy bunny. Now there's a threat, Truly, the U.K. is ruled by dangerous madmen. Please, America, invade us and arrange a regime change. |

Does anyone here seriously think that if the developed world simply goes to electric cars and sequesters CO2, that the rest of the developing world who can't afford this sort of technology, isn't just going to burn fossil fuels in any manner they can? Do you think the villager in Nigeria who's using pilfered oil products, or the Chinese who use coal to heat and cook are going to stop burning fuels as they do? No. If CO2 makes a difference in GW, then we had better spend the resources to adapt, because history shows us there is no way to control the behavior of billions of people, especially those who have little material wealth now. 7 Billion people have the inheritant desires to eat, stay warm and use fuels to travel and run machines.

..."or the Chinese who use coal to heat and cook are going to stop burning fuels as they do? No. "... Indeed the number one foreign supplier to China for coal is... you guessed it... the US of A.!!! Since the skids for this unsung distinction were greased LONG ago by the Clinton administration; as you might remember the VP for that eight year regime was Al Gore? I could be mistaken.? VP Gore did credit himself with inventing the internet.( I didn't know VP's had THAT much free time) Does anyone even wonder what a democratic dominated House, Senate, Executive branch, state governors, etc., etc. will do about this? China really endeavors to be just like us !!!! Just keep in mind as Kernick suggests, we are a population of 300 M vs 2,000 M (2 B) . or 6.7 times the population! So if anything, turn on even higher the bubble machine !!! Just play more tunes with the global warming theme. One might further ask, IF solar panels are the policy, instead of coal fired electrical generation plants, how long it would take for a majority of houses to be so equipped? Keep in mind the AVERAGE Chinese family's income is less than 2,000 US per year. With the average solar panel system costing 20-30k installed here, any liberal can do the math!? |

Replying to: kernick (Dec 01, 2008 7:40 am) Yes, we do have WMD, that's true. However, we cannot freely use the submarine-carried ones. Part of the deal for us having the system was that you guys, in the USA, would maintain control of a link in the fire control chain. So, we can only launch our "independent" system if you folks say it's O.K. to do so. Guess it's just there to make sure we don't try and take back The Colonies by force. Sorry this is off-topic but felt the need to clarify the WMD thing.
