I just leased a 2006 LS430. I had a 2003 GS430 that was coming off lease in April, so I stopped by the local Lexus dealership to see if now was the time to do something or wait until the lease was up. They offered me a 36 month, 12,000 mile year lease with a .00150 money factor and a 52% residual, I walked on this deal, they came back with a 57% residual so I accepted this deal. I didn't realize they could monkey w/ the residual, I always thought the residual was what it is, but apparently you can negotiate a residual. After reading Car Man's post I think I could have gotten a little better money factor but I'm trying to see if I could have gotten a better residual. The car I leased had the premium pak, smart key and preferred accessory package (listed for about $59,772) So is the 57% residual about what most people are getting on the LS for December to Remember?

| I'm new to Lexus vehicles and not familiar with the Ultra & Mod. I am coming off of a Jaguar lease (S type) in Feb. and after 2 Jags I have decided to lease a Lexus LS430 or a Mercedes S350. I am leaning toward the Lexus because I think it's better quality. The captioned promotion, however, is confusing but it appears to be better than the Mercedes Winter Lease. I have seen some enticing lease offers in the So. Cal classifieds, no details but great lease per month prices, and I have not followed up on them. Obviuosly, research re dealers is a must but is solely relying on Edmunds sufficient? I have not gone to a dealership but probably that should be my first step with regard to optional equip, et al. Any and all responses regarding the Promotion and Leases in general will be greatly appreciated. | |

I too want to say thanks for the link to "how to calculate a lease". I followed it thru just fine, and thought it was well laid out. But can anyone explain the one bit of logic that seemed flawed to me. That is, the formula divides the depreciation of the auto (difference between MSRP and Residual) into the number of payments. That's fine. Then you calculate the interest on the car. The formula says add the residual to the MSRP!!?? In other words, you not only pay interest on the car, but on the residual value? Hunh? That's interest on 150-160% of the car. How can that be? Am I missing something in this logic? Thanks for all the excellent information.
