E85, a blend of 85 percent corn-based ethanol and 15 percent gasoline, could be eating away at metal and plastic parts in gas station pumps, Underwriters Laboratories, the private product-safety testing group, said this month. Read the whole story here http://www.startribune.com/535/story/769604.html How big a roadblock is this in the development of E85?

Replying to: pf_flyer (Oct 27, 2006 5:29 am) http://www.ul.com/newsroom/newsrel/nr110606.html E85 is not going to be competitive until there is enough ethanol for the E10 mix. So for now the problem should not hold up E85 because sales are low anyway. I also read somewhere that the Fire Marshal in Minnesota has OK'd the current E85 pumps. If you go to this site http://www.neo.state.ne.us/statshtml/146.htm I think you will see that E85 sales have stalled. In June of 2005, sales were 120,000 gallons. By June 2006, sales had dropped to 20,000 On a related note, I see that the Pioneer Press is reporting "Wide-scale biodiesel problems feared Quality troubles seen last year in Minnesota appearing across U.S." http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/business/15984811.htm?source=rss&channe- l=twincities_business I think in both cases we are having some growing pains. The rapid influx of money is attracting good and not so good companies. |
