I am intending on building a decent community here onthis forum. I am not the kind of person that likes knowing that people out there arent getting the information they deserve..

To preface this, IF YOU OWN A 90-93 Q45 PLEASE READ THIS... To preface what I am about to say, let me EMPHASIZE the following points.

1. You think it wont happen to you? You're wrong.
2. You think youll wait until nexy year to do it? Hope you dont plan on having a car then.
3. Unless you have probable cause to think otherwise, your car is effected.

As a side note, if you own a 94+ Q45, you DO NOT APPLY to this!

The problem is with the TIMING CHAIN GUIDES.

This article on a forum I write for describes it a little.

This is also helpful:
http://www.q45.org/chainguidehowto.html

The abstract is that the guides for the timing chain, primarily the slack side guides, were made out of plastic, instead of metal. With age these get brittle and break, and for various reasons causes the chains to jump time and DESTROY THE MOTOR.

This job is well known, and costs about as much as doing a timing belt job on an LS400 but you only have to do it once!!!! The chains are OK, they are good up to 250,000+++.

So, if you own a 90-93 Q45, please check your service records. If you see something about "timing chains" on your records, your probably OK.

There isnt any way to tell if your guides have been done without taking the front cover of the motor off...

The motor in the 90-96 Q45 is one of the finest engines made by Nissan, and is more finely tuned and balanced than an AMG motor in the famous Mercedes Benz lineup. It makes me sad to see one of these amazing motors stop revving to 7000 RPMs due to neglegent or ignorant owners....
