Ford adds RSC and took away rear disc brakes!? by rhl

I find it unbelievable that Ford would add an overdue feature such as Rollover Stability Control (RSC) and at the same time replace the rear disc brakes with drum brakes (this also has been done to the Non Hybrid Escape as well!). In reality no one should be using drum brakes in this day and age. Dose anyone at Ford know what they are doing and what the competition is doing???

I don't think this was a change for the conventional Escape - it had rear drum brakes in 2008, but did have RSC.

My 2008 FEH has 4 wheel discs, but no RSC. However, with the AWD I do not find this to be a problem. When I drove the 2008 FWD I thought it had a bit too much body roll.

As to why this route was taken, the probable explanation is that Ford is having trouble integrating ABS into the hybrid system when combined with RSC and disc brakes. But that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Maybe drum brakes are cheaper, and they wanted to save costs by having both the conventional and hybrid Escapes use the same braking system.

But my money is on some kind of technical reason.

the rear brakes don't really do much, so you are not gaining a lot with rear discs.
our '04 non hybrid rear brakes still check out 'in the green' every service.
i think they said they should be good for over 100k at the rate of wear.
my wife wants a hybrid, but would like other interior color choices.

Nat Gas Converstion by imcookn

I was wondering if a natural gas conversion would make sense for the 07 FEH?

Such conversions have existed for a long time and I thought Progress Energy and the US Post Office had vehicles in the past.

Let me start by saying that I love this suv/hybrid. My previous hybrid was an Accord and the ford system is head and shoulders above the Honda. Having said that, here's what I'd like to add to the ford escape hybrid. 1) Garage door openers!!! Is there a reason that my fully equiped Limited w/ Nav does not have this feature??? 2) I too would like a trailor hitch for a bike rack. 3) I would have paid up for cooled seats so I wish it were available. PS my gas milage is well above the sticker estimate!!!
