| The biggest positive change they could make for me would be to quiet it down a whole bunch. At road speeds the noise is near deafening. Not the engine or drivetrain I think, but the road/wind/tire noise. My daughters' Focus has Pirellis and precious little sound deadening material and it is about as loud at the $33K Mariner Hybrid. Wind noise around mirrors, road noise thru floorboards and wheel wells. | |
| I have an '07 HEV Escape which I installed a Rear View Mirror with a temp and compass with no problems. The comapss and temp read-out are accurate. It is the Donnelly Model 36500, which also has map lights which are very nice. As it turns out Donnelly also made the OEM Rear view that came with the Escape. | |

Replying to: pf_flyer (Oct 26, 2006 5:13 am) I have a related question for the techs out there: If I replaced the drum brakes with disk brakes, would it have any negative effects on ABS, roll stability control, or possibly the regenerative braking? Thanks,

Replying to: alex35 (Feb 15, 2007 9:21 am) Yes, changing the brake hardware could affect anti-lock performance. No - the regen system takes place inside the eCVT and is not affected by the brake hardware at the wheels.

Replying to: mecheng1 (Feb 16, 2007 10:18 am) EDIT: Reading a bit further, and more closely, on page 13 it says the Hybrid will have disk/disk, so apparently the regular will have disc/drum and the hybrid disk/disk. This has been a point of confusion for me in reading a variety of previews, and official publications have been known to contain errors, so I'm still going to wait for more published test results.

The gas Escape has rear DRUM brakes THe HYBRID has rear disk brakes. Drum brakes are not backwards technology and are perfectly adequate in APPROPRIATE applications. The Escape is relatively light weight, coming in around 3500 pounds. It is also not really a tow vehicle. Objectively speaking. Drum brakes are more reliable as a parking/mechanical brake. Drum brakes are much less expensive to service which lowers the cost of vehicle ownership. Being Objective, if Ford has to save some dough by going with rear drums vs discs but I get Standard Stability control, I say its a good tradeoff. Mark. |

| I love my new Escape Hybrid. I would agree that all FEHs should come with an outside temperature gauge on them as a standard item. I had the cheapest Corolla in the world and it had that feature on it as a standard item. I also wish Ford wouldn't nickle and dime you to death. Floor mats and such should also be standard equipment for a new vehicle. | |
