| I have about 1200 miles on my 2008 FEH with every option. LOVE it. Mostly freeway with a bit of stop-n-go is getting me 31-32 MPG and I'm not even trying! But for the life of me I can't figure out why Ford (this is my, uh, 20th? Ford) will not offer a telescoping steering wheel. I'm 6 foot even, but long-waisted. I have plenty of head room, even with the moonroof. But my proportions means that either my hands barely reach the wheel or my feet are crammed up into the pedals. Simple fix, it's just not available. Other than that (and this is not a problem in my '05 Super Duty with moveable pedals) I just love this thing! My wife's '05 Five Hundred could desperately use the same wheel fix. | |
The two items that are keeping me from buying the 2008 FEH are the lack of a Advance Trac with Roll Stability Control (RSC) which is standard on the non Hybrid Escape and a towing capacity better than the current 1000 lbs that would be at least 1500 lbs which would be the same as the non Hybrid 4 cylinder Escape.

Replying to: rhl (Apr 25, 2007 7:16 am) A lot of people are making a big deal out of the lack of RSC in the hybrid. I understand that stability control is becoming a more standard option, but people have been driving vehicles for years without stability control. If you remain calm and don't try to swerve at 65 mph or something then it's not an issue. Sure you don't want to hit the deer, but would you rather roll the vehicle. I'm not cutting on you rhl, I would like to have it as well, but it just seems as a lot of people consider as some type of death sentence if you dont' have it.

Prior to that the FEH was my number one choice for a new vehicle. I'm not sold on stability control; I have never had a vehicle with this installed. It's just that within 15 seconds of my test drive, the FEH did not inspire confidence in the handling. I was coming from a 2003 CR-V, which may have impacted my judgement somewhat. FWIW, I bought a Ford Freestyle instead (also no stability control, but it is very stable on the road).

1) Optional removable additional battery. A box, square, flat, vertical what ever that would sit in the cargo area to provide additional capacity. Naturally it should be user removable. 2) As an option, make the moon/sun roof be a solar cell so it can charge while you are at work/in the mall etc. |

Got my wife an 08 Mariner hybrid. She loves it, but we both can't figure out why the gas version got the audio controls on the wheel and not on the hybrid?! Does anyone know if you could replace the steering wheel with one from the gas version--if there is a seperate wiring harness connection in the rear of the NAV radio? Expensive probably, but do-able?
