"his means that every Hybrid Ford produces means one less conventional Escape Ford can produce and Ford makes money on conventional Escapes as opposed to just breaking even if at all on on the Hybrid. "

For upped the price on the 2009 by about 3K, from what I can tell. That may help.

I think the production problems have to do with battery availability, not some corporate conspiracy. There just aren't enough batteries to build more FEH.

YES! I just brought home my new 2008 FEH last night and that lack of the CC Cancel button drove me up a wall - I also had one on my Freestyle (mine was a 2005!)

I generally bite the bullet and hit the brakes for a second to cancel, unless I'm in a situation where some idiot is trying to make me slow down, in which case I shut the CC OFF.

I loved by 2006 Freestyle. If that sucker had used a conventional rather than a CVT (which was discontinued), I may well have stuck with it. The FS was the best overall car I have ever owned, when one counts comfort, sheer utility, ride, and good MPG on a 4200 lb vehicle.

However I'm REALLY enjoying my 2008 AWD FEH. I'm at about 3K miles and the MPG is starting to improve. My tanks are around 30 - 31 MPG, mostly in town mileage. The FS got 19 in this kind of driving.

1) interior handle above the passenger door

2) full size spare

3) trailer hitch receiver (for my bike rack)

Ford says none of the above are possible.

Number 1) would block the deployment of the side curtain airbags.
Number 2) is possible on the 2005 - 2007 vehicles (and I assume 2008), I have heard testimony from several folks who have installed a full size spare with no modifications. Number 3) I installed on my 2006 FEH for just that purpose. It is a Class III hitch and includes a 2" receiver to handle my "Yakima HoldUp" bike rack. (The rack install may affect the full size spare desire. My hitch closely follows the circumference of the spare.)

"2) full size spare"

I haven't looked yet, but the dealer said my 2008 came with a full sized spare. I do have the AWD, which may make a difference.

Sunscreen by stevedebi

The visor is too narrow! In the evenings I drive North, which means the sun comes in my window. I swing the visor to the side window, but it leaves 1/3 of the side window open to the sun - the portion that shines on me.

I suggest a visor extension, or making the visor slide along the arm so that I can block the sun in the side windows.

All good ideas although I'm not to keen on rear seat entertainment as it reduces family interaction and conversation which I think we all need more of. As for the Class I hitch there are class III after market hitches with 2" receiver that will accommodate bike racks. The only issues are some don't allow for the spare tire to be mounted in its well but needs to be put inside the vehicle and although a class III hitch is rated for 5000 lb towing capacity the Escape Hybrid is rated to tow only 1000 lb which is less than a Class I rating.

ANyone have any inof on what is in the works for a "Pluggable" FEH? I was told by my service manageer that Ford had something in the works and would release a retrofit kit for the '09's (perhaps others??) once in production. Are there any kits currently on the market to effect this???
